Walk at least 30-45 minutes a day.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive disease. This means if you don’t take medication to slow down this progression you are going to get damage in your joints. Look at this- http://www.google.co.nz/search?q=rheumatoid+arthritis+hands&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1173&bih=530. You do not want your joints to look like this.
There are many medications out there that can slow this down. Without these medications, it is inevitable that your joints will look like that.
You can do things to help, but at the end of the day you need a rheumatologist.
In the mean time, look after yourself, rest, eat health and do light exercise and make sure you’re using your joints but looking after them.

There are some natural products that actually are scientifically proven to reduce the swelling and pain without any known side effects. These are rose hip, pomegranate and cherries.
Also Aloe Vera juice, omega 3, ginger, turmeric, garlic, onion, Boswellia Serrata and oil from green lipped mussels are naturally anti-inflammatory.
There are also some foods you should avoid, because they are inflammation promoting . Among these are pork, tomatoes, oranges, red wine, strawberries, and cocoa.
I got diagnosed with RA and started on this diet along with an alkaline forming diet. After 4 months on this diet I could stop taking pills from the doctor.
A clever acupuncturist can also help you to relieve pain.
Natural products don’t work as fast as pills, but they don’t have nasty side effects.
I wish you the best of luck.
