What kind of physician should I see?
For about two months I have had a constantly painful, swollen left foot. I did not do anything to harm it. I have been to the E.R. and was told it is arthritis. My family doctor has no idea. I do not have health insurance at this time and I have to pay for everything. I can’t afford to fool around with different doctors and play guessing games. I need to get relief for this foot asap! Should I see a podiatrist or orthopedic doctor? If it is arthritis, would a rheumatologist help? Please let me know. Thank you.
You don’t have insurance but yet made an expensive trip to the ER for a swollen foot?? Ask the doc that looked at it for a referral.
I would ask the family doctor for a referral to avoid wasting money. .Also go to web m.d. online. And see if you can get other diagnosis
If it is arthritis then you would be best to see a rheumatologist. An orthopedic doctor would be the next best choice.
Good luck.
….
Most definitely see a Podiatrist. They are not as expensive as people often think.
Podiatrists are trained in not just foot care, but all lower limb. Including neurological, musculoskeletal and vascular conditions.
Where exactly is the swelling located? Mid-foot? Ankle?
Does the swelling worsen at all during the day?
Is it relieved by rest?
There are symptoms associated with arthritis, and there is more than just one type of arthritis.
A podiatrist is trained to address each condition, and are skilled in assessing what else the issue might be if not arthritis.
