I have heard that Emu Oil has helped a lot of people with their pain. I don’t know whether or not it actually cures anything, but getting rid of the pain seems important.
try a heat pump. it circulates water through a pad that can be applied to just about any body part, and the water temperature will never get higher than 107 degrees and is covered by most insurances.
That heat pump sounds good and will look into that one asap!!
I take a good does of ibuprofen a day. Eat plenty of fish, fruits,a good rounded diet. I cook everything we eat so I no what is in our food. Depends on how bad your arthritis is? I have had the shots, not worth it!!
Surgery back in the day when the docs said it was only arthritis was fifty fifty, not good enough odds and now that I have RA it would not have helped even if I did get the surgery done (10 years ago or more?). There is that option, I do not know the statistics now a days…
If you can try to exercise, very low exercising. Nothing to strenuous.
If you are able to work, braises come in handy. Even though peeps ask you about them and it is embarrassing for some of us they do help. I went through the jelly’s and creams and because of the stench they put in these (elderly will not mistake them as toothpaste and other creams) it was unsociable in a office environment. Get the biggest pens, pencils you can find, if that is you can not use a keyboard to write on. I found this lap top is much more comfortable to use then the main computers keyboard. When you have flare ups try and be around people who understand, those who do not do no good for your mental health! Try hard to get into the sun, florescent lighting this helps with depression. Try hard and get sleep, pain killers are good for this if you have to use them, do!
I found the doctors like to try one out on this new drug or that one, learn to stick up to doctors!! The side effect can be worse then the pain of arthritis. Protect your body parts from the cold. Hot shower, hot tub before having to go out in the cold.
Electric can openers, or a teenage boy like I have can help with this. If in your legs or hips do your best to braise yourself when you walk, or try walking. Do not fall on the wood stove like I have done!
Learn to say no to your partner if it is the other half wants that at night or whenever. Driving can be entertaining, so be real careful or have someone drive you, pain in the butt I know but better for everyone on the roads. Especially if you have pain killers in you. There are handy devises for getting dressed, I stay clear away from buttons!! Tyeing shoes is also entertaining, try and find other kinds if that is it is in your hands. Holding a tennis ball or other kind of small ball is good for your hands, you start to fiddle with it…A dog trained to pick up things, and do things for you is good, and you have a companion who wont get tired of your complaining and tears…
I can probably go on but I have had this over 20 years and had done everything but the new stuff out now (the expensive stuff)…hope this helps some??
Definitely look into that heat pump! Also, exercise that is not strenuous helps too. It keeps the joints mobile and not getting stiff and sore. So, try and move as much as you can. For the swelling, take an over the counter anti-inflamatory like Aleve(works great on arthritis pain) or ibuprophen, also alternate between heat and ice which will help with the swelling.
I know how you feel, I suffer from arthritis too and some days are definitely better than others. You can try going to Physical Therapy to see if that helps you out.
