What do you think I should do, i only have a short time? ( dog related)?
I have a 12-14 year old dalmation( Im not sure how old he is he may be younger). He has arthritis, but other than that he is healthy.
Recently we moved to an apartment, instead of paying the $350 monthly pet deposit we left him with our grandma( that and he has trouble going up the stairs we live in the second story of the apartment complex). She has been living the dog outside which made his arthritis a bit worse. My parents have decided to put our dog to sleep. My mom later told me that me that if my grandma had been taking care of our dog that h could be nursed back to health. I am moving out and going to college, I am willing to take him with me and nurse him back to health.
I can’t let my best friend die when technically speaking he his healthy and letting him die becuase no one can take care of him.
Am o doin the righ thing or wrongg?
i think you are absolutely right, if your old enough (guessing you obviously are) then sure why not move out and take him.
when going to college make sure he still gets some attention because you will spend time studying etc…
i hope i helped, good luck!
You did the wrong thing when you left your “best friend” to live with your grandma. You should have found a place that was on the ground level, where you could bring your “best friend” along. He has suffered for this already. If you are going off to college, are you going to be in a position to arrange housing where you can keep your dog? Are you committed enough to do what’s best for him instead of what you want to do? You haven’t shown that kind of commitment so far. Maybe you should reconsider your options.
I really think you should take care of him.
I was only 14 when my dog had to be put down becuase she was sick and we didnt have enough money to look after her. And i always find myself thinking back to the day when we said goodbye and i wish i spent just one more minute with her.
If you let her get put down or ”to sleep” no offense but i can almost 100% truthfully say you will regret it and feel bad for not looking after him.
After all he is your best friend as you stated, and as your dog protects you, you must protect and look after him.
Good luck, hope this helped, and may your dog get better soon.

First of all are you sure you have to pay $350 dog deposit MONTHLY? Normally that deposit, like the normal deposit, is a one-off payment which is held until you move out and repaid, or not, depending on how you keep the place.
Secondly, arthritis can be kept under control – obviously not cured, but it should be possible for him to be reasonably pain free. If he’s not used to being kept outside, that’s awfully hard on any dog, never mind an elderly arthritic one. He doesn’t deserve that in his twilight days!!
No, you surely can’t pts at this point – and not many vets would willingly pts an otherwise reasonably healthy animal in any case. If you can have him with you (and provided he’s not likely to be left alone for hours), that’s what I’d do.
Try taking him with you and arranging someone to care for him and/or walk him if you have several long hours of classes in a row, since this can be expensive try bartering for the service. You could tutor in trade for this service or offer a ride(if you have a car) to certain events, clean their dorm room, several other options. Just make sure you have a person you know is trusted and highly recommended so you know you are both safe.
If your dog continues to get ill and you have done all you can you will know your options are now limited. But first try with proper medication and care you could have a friend for quite awhile not to mention he will keep you safer at school.
Best Wishes.

Student Services should have names of other students looking for small jobs such as helping look after your friend.
You could offer to do the laundry of the person as payment for their services too. Wash their clothing while you do yours? Just an idea. Good Luck.
Its a horrible reality- but I dont think that you are in the right place to take on your dog.
I know the feeling- last year my dog developed diabetes and I was determined to take care of her rather than let her stay with my parents if they decided that euthenasia was the only option- but they ended up helping her- although- looking back- it was 12 months worth of her life that probably wasnt worth it- expensive vet bills, plus she was sick and really didnt have much quality of life (even with the constant treatment- she went blind- had a hard time with the diabetes and was sick and got UTIs regularly)
Your dog is 14 years old- thats a pretty darn good age. Your parents cant care for him because its not fair to keep him in an apartment that is on the second floor which would aggrivate his condition, your grandma cant give him the right level of care, and trust me- college is going to be hard enough on you both time wise and financially- it is a huge ask to take an older dog on (they are less active- but vet treatment, etc wise- cost so much more to keep)
At 14, the chances are that if he does get nursed back to health- he probably isnt going to last much longer, anyways.
Its obvious that you love him, but think about his quality of life- for how long will he have to suffer to become healthy- and for how long will he be healthy before he is going to die of old age or other health problems?
Good luck, I hope you make the best choice for you and your pet.
