What are the effects of not taking treatment for Juvinile Arthritis?
My brother is 12 and has JIA. He suffers a lot just like any other child with JIA and is usually pretty good about taking his medication. however lately he has been telling my parents that he is taking his daily medication but they think he is lying because my mom hasn’t had to refill some of his prescriptions in a while. I’m not sure if he IS lying, since he isn’t throwing away his pills the way most kids tend to when on Methotrexate and other pills, but I still want to know what the consequences could possibly be if he is lying.
There could be very serious consequences. One would be severe joint damage, beyond what will happen anyway.
If you can talk to your brother maybe that would help.
In my opinion, your brother is way to young to be in control of his own medicine if he isn’t taking it. Maybe your Mom should just start giving it to him herself and watch him swallow.
I had to do that with my daughter. She needed her medicine but was to immature to realize how important it was.
I hope things get better.
