I’m a little afraid to take some of the OTC. meds. for the pain and swelling. I can’t do the things I used to do so easily and frankly, I’m getting tired of it. Home remedies sometimes help more than anything else. Anyone?

My cat was just diagnosed with having feline arthritis. She is 5 years old and relatively young, so this came as a surprise. However, we don’t think its very severe but I’m glad that we now know. Is there any advice anyone has that has a cat with arthritis? What can I do for pain relief when she gets a “flare up” and are there any preventative measures I can take? My vet suggested some supplements for bone and joint health, are there any that you would suggest? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

He is a pitbull and his front leg is swollen and he can’t go without meds 4 his arthritis. he is on glucosamine too. He has hot spots, runny eyes, general malaise, limping, weight loss. He is 6 years old.

Is there any real outside influences that can predispose one to this type of arthritis?

I believe i have severe arthritis in both feet. There are many days i can hardly walk. Sometimes the pain is in my joints and there are days the whole area of the feet hurt. Anyone out there have this problem and how is it taken care of.?

Thank you in advance
i also would like to know if arthritis shows up in x-rays

Dear friends,

Our beloved FOXIE, was recently diagnosed with CRF and the prognosis seems to be poor. We are willing to do everything we can to save our little Foxie!!

Is she in the final stage? We got the diagnosis just 10 days ago, but today when I have learnt about CRF, I think there were signs already during the summer. Her way of movement was stiff and Foxie doesn’t really like to be caressed over her back – probably bone pain….
I thought it was arthritis, but the vet examined her and found no such evidence. Unfortunately, no blood test was done.

We estimate Foxie’s age to something between 4-8 years old.

Her test result:
Creatinine 954
Urea high 41
Phosphate high 4.3
Blood pressure high 170
HCT 19.2%

The ultrasound shows that the kidneys are damaged, but to our veterinarian’s surprise, they looked better than expected with a crea of 950. A urine test tells us the concentration is ok. However, I don’t think he did a urine culture.

She is eating every day, not so much, but app 60 g of wetfood per day. We give special diet, but also normal food. Anything to make her eat!! Foxie weighs 3.8 kg today. She weight 4.1 kg one month ago.

Foxie has been given intravenous fluids 200-350 ml per day for 8 days now, she is also medicating for high blood pressure, Norvasc 5mg Amiodipin 1/4 of tablett per day, and Renalzin (phosphate binder).

After 7 days on fluids and medicine, the latest test results show no change….I think she is getting weaker every day, Her appetite is reduced and she sleeps most. It breaks my heart to see her like this.

Is there anything more to do? Any new treatments? Any other medicines we should give her? Should we continue with the daily intravenous fluids? We don’t medicate for the anemia, even though it is very low. Do you think we should and how?

Do you think medicine for anemia can help? Antibiotics? Or is it time to say goodbye, until we meet again…We want her to have a good cat life. If there is nothing more to do, it is be time for her to go to a better place.

We are willing to do everything to help Foxie and would be so grateful for your advice.

Annette, Mike & Foxie

My 2 yr. old Jack Rat terrier was recently diagnosed with having a torn ACL ligament. Right now I have her in a cast and am trying to get some weight off of her in hopes that over time the tear will heal itself, but my vet said she would probably need surgery. I hate the idea of surgery; my dog is very nervous, easily upset, and doesn’t like change–she seems depressed just by having this cast on. Also, the surgery is supposed to be painful with a long and painful recovery time, and very very expensive, and the vet told me she would probably develop arthritis eventually and she may still be lame. I will do whatever it takes to get Grendel healed, but if there are any alternatives to surgery, I would like to try them first.

For years my doctor has been telling me that I have arthritis but it only shows in my x-rays and not my blood tests. Is that possible?
