A 58-year-old woman, is a known patient of rheumatoid arthritis for 5 years.
Presenting Complaints: She presents with more intense pain and stiffness in her hands along with generalized fatigue since few weeks. In spite of a larger dose of NSAIDs over the last few weeks there has been little relief from pain.
General Examination:
Pale palmar creases, and pale conjunctiva
Local Examination:
Swelling and tenderness of the 3rd & 4th metacarpophalangeal joints in both hands,
Laboratory test:
CBC: Hb = 7.0 g/dL (normal, 12.0-16.0 g/dL);
Peripheral Blood Picture: Rouleaux +
mild normocytic anemia
Absolute monocytosis.
Serum total protein = 8.5 g/dL (normal, 3.5-5.5 g/dL)
Serum albumin = 3.0 g/dL (normal, 6.0-7.8 g/dL)
Serum globulins = 5.5 g/dL (normal, 2.3-5.5 g/dL)
Her stool occult blood is positive.

1. What is the cause for her pale appearance?
2. Is there an inflammatory component to the clinical picture of patient being pale?
3. Why is the total protein increased and serum albumin decreased?
4. What do you infer from the absolute monocytosis observed in the differential count of the peripheral blood picture?
5. What is the role of Rhematoid Arthritis (inflammation) in deforming Ms. Nada’s metacarpophalyngeal joints?

I have a 50 pound american staffordshire terrier. her vet just diagnosed her with arthritis in both of her knees. As of now she doesnt need surgery but she is on a 1000MG glucosamine pill once a day for the rest of her life to make her joints more fluid her vet says i can give her 1 adult aspirin twice a day at the most when it seems her arthritis may be bothering her (like after she is outside or something). She is not overweight AT ALL very in shape and muscular very healthy otherwise. I am just looking for some suggestions on what else could help ease my dogs arthritis (she is about 5 years old we think..she was adopted). Thank You

• Omega 3 dosage for dogs? I don’t want to know about fish oil, I just want to know the everyday mg amount of omega 3 for a 5 kg 7 year old male
• purebreed lives longer than purebreed or? Because in the article of Pusuke the oldest dog, the writer wrote that purebred lives longer mixed breed.
• garlic for dogs? Some people say garlic are good for a dogs immunity system and some articles and people say that garlic are one of the toxic food that harms dogs.
• human food for dogs? I’m not saying about table scraps, I mean healthy lean meats vegetables and all the other healthy stuff with omega 3,6 and so on. Some people say it’s better to stick to commercial dog foods which I think is not so healthy, while others say healthy human food as it can also add years to a dogs life.
• glucosamine to prevent dog arthritis before they get it? Where is glucosamine found? Or what other food can prevent arthritis?
I’m really confused with all this because some people just feed their dog a few times and if their dog is still jumping around and fine they start to spread around the Internet saying how good that food is.

Background:
I’m dealing with an autoimmune disorder. I have Endometriosis that has caused infertility coupled by severe arthritis pain. All pain is cyclical in nature with my cycle and acupuncture has proven to help the flare-ups tremendously, if not eliminating them completely. However, I’ve recently stopped acupuncture due to lack of funds. I fully intend to continue with it when funds are replenished.

My question:
Has a dramatic diet change helped anyone here with an autoimmune disorder to put it into “remission” or should I even dare, cure? What were the steps that you took? Do tell all! Thank you a million times over

I’m 17 and have been having really sore knees and neck when I wake up, but just figured I slept funny. Today I woke up and I literally couldn’t stand. Both of my knees were in a lot of pain, as well as my upper leg area and neck. I read some stuff about fingers and feet hurting, but never experienced neither.

I’m really scared, and I’m going to make a doctors appointment. What else could this be and does it sound like RA? I just learned it today but it unfortunately sounds right. Any info is helpful– thanks.
