My dog has very bad arthritis in her back legs and I am trying to help her lose weight as she is a little fat. I would like to give her lots more exercise than just her normal daily walk. Today She had a long walk and she did a lot of running about and chasing the ball, although now I can tell that it hurts her a lot and I takes her a long time to get up and her legs are very stiff. Should I carry on giving her lots of exercise to lose weight or do I just let her be fat?
I am also going to give her glucosamine with her food at night
Her vet has told us to feed her rice and chicken or white fish until she has shed a few pounds so fingers crossed that she will!
She loves to swim so that’s a great idea! And yes she had got arthritis the vet has told us and it is very painful for her
Is it possible for the joints, like the wrist, to start hurting if you may have breast cancer ? It is described like you have arthritis and feels sore when pressure is put on it.
Also, what are other possible symptoms of having breast cancer besides a lump forming near your breast?
Today, my muscles and joints swelled and seized up so badly that it got hard to breathe and pulled my shoulders and elbows out of joint. I went to the doctor, and they just gave me two shots of Toradol and Phenegran. This has happened only once before, but it wasn’t this severe. That was when I was on Xanax XR. I never had joint pain or anything until I took that medication. It says that is one of the side effects. BUT, I’ve been off of it for three months. Why would my muscles and joints screw up so severely now? I never got my limberness back, and I’ve had more pain since that medication, but my whole body had never seized up like that before. They didn’t give me enough Toradol because it didn’t help much. When my other doctor gave me that shot the first time, it worked immediately. So why would a “medication” still be affecting me this badly? I am really doubting that I came down with a sudden case of arthritis at age 22 with no symptoms beforehand. How can I fix this?
Also, I am up to date on my Tetanus shot. And I know it wasn’t an allergic reaction because I haven’t eaten or been exposed to anything unusual in the last few days. How did Xanax XR damage my body that badly? I wasn’t even on it very long. Could I the damage be permanent???
To the first person that answered, I have gone off all my medication because I now know how horrible this shit is. My parents made me go to a shrink at 14 because they thought I was anorexic. I wasn’t. I didn’t want to take the drugs, but they literally would force them down my throat or they and the doctors would make threats about me going somewhere permanent… like a mental institution if I didn’t take their drugs. I’m not kidding. I didn’t do research then because I was naive and thought my parents and doctors wouldn’t do something to hurt my health so severely. But after many horrible realizations from certain experiences and research I have done, I found out that these psychiatric drugs should NEVER have been legal. And I HATE how they are giving these to children and adults all the time now, like there’s nothing wrong with it. But I do NOT think it’s my fault that the doctors gave me bad drugs. I was young when it happened, and after being drugged up for so long, I was
convinced that there was something wrong with me after all. I finally realized it wasn’t me. It was the drugs. Now my health is ruined, and not just what happened with the Xanax XR. But don’t you DARE tell me that it was my fucking fault. It was parents and doctors. My parents didn’t do research, they forced me, and hurt me. And the doctors just wanted to make money. I get that now. I wish I had known beforehand. Also, I’ve been to doctors trying to get help, but none want to admit that the drugs they prescribe or support (their clocks, kleenex boxes, all that are covered in drug names) are really incredibly harmful.

Here is a little background! I have 5 slipped discs – each have their own problem but here are the main things….I have arthritis in 4 of them, 1 of them has an annular tear plus I have mild scoliosis. My primary care physician had me on Lortab 7.5mg 2x’s / day – which is only helping some but could use better relief obviously. I was sent to a pain management specialist and had my appointment today where I had filled the new patient paperwork, etc.
The PA came back and examined me and went over my paperwork doing the usual routine then the Dr. came in. We discussed my problems, treatments such as epidural injections, physical therapy and medications. He had stated that I would need to submit a urine specimen before he could start me on any medication which was completely fine. When we’re finished talking, he leaves and a Nurse comes in, gives me the cup and shows me where the bathroom is, I get it taken care of, give it to the Nurse and go back to the room. The PA came in with the Physical Therapy form to take to any place
I asked a question yesterday bc my dog hurt her paw. I took her to the vet, and they said she has arthritis. She is only 1 year and 9 months. I bought some vitamin supplements to help prevent hip dysplasia and glucosimine I am also putting her on fish oil for her skin. They also gave her a shot to help with the inflamation in her front paw. What else can I do to help my dog and make sure she is comfortable!!!
I dont know her health history because I rescued Milie 8 months ago from the shelter. Her previous owners abused her, and never took her to the vet. Now I do everything I can to make sure she is healthy and happy!
Also I heard that heated dog beds help dogs that have arthritis. Is this true?
I have undifferentiated mixed connective tissue disease. I’ve tested positive for Sjogren’s syndrome a few years back, but it is not primary. That means that I either have Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis. I’ve been taking plaquenil for 4+ years and had some toxicity. My dose has been decreased and I started taking Methotrexate in August. I currently take 10 mg. I’ve noticed minimal (very, very minor) improvement in joint swelling. I seem to have 2-3 good days a week, but still have considerable swelling in my joints. I see my rheumatologist in 3 weeks, but I thought I would ask anyone who is taking methotrexate to see how long it took them to know it is working.
My major complaint is fatigue. I’m exhausted and I don’t think the fatigue is worth the minimal improvement. If anyone who is currently taking this med can give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Should I hang in there? I’m also doing homeopathic treatments with a doc and aqua therapy 2-3x a week.
I came home from work today and found my 12yo female cat unable to stand up and falling over because she could not use her hind legs. She was pretty much dragging her hind legs behind her and rolling over on her side trying to greet me at the door. I immediately brought her to my local vet and after an examination and xray, my vet advised me that she possibly had a slipped disc in her back. The xray was inconclusive and nothing really “jumped out” at the vet as a definate problem.
Additionally, the vet checked her for pain in her legs and hips (she had none), as well as to make sure she had feeling in her hind legs (she does). My cat was moving her legs, but just cannot seem to be able to stand up and walk on her own at all. She is not crying, and does not seem to be in any pain. She is a Maine Coon and she weighs in around 15 pounds.
At the advice of my Vet, she is being kept overnight so she can be treated with dexamethasone. I am unfamiliar with this drug/treatment, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have had any similar experiance, and what the outcome was.
Honestly, my vet told me that only a CAT scan or MRI can pinpoint the cause if it is spinal related, and that cost is about $1700 in my part of the world, and that is just not financially possible for me.
As a piece of background information, my cat has been climbing the stairs a bit slowly over the past two months, and over the past two or three nights was not coming upstairs at all. She was sleeping on the downstairs couch, which is really not unusual as it has been hot here and she likes the AC blowing on her. I had just attributed the slowness in climbing the stairs due to older age and maybe a touch of arthritis setting in. She is getting older and she is a bit overweight. I never imagined it could be something so serious. She has been eating and drinking as usual, and up until this afternoon when I got home she was as normal as she ever has been.
If anyone could chime in and provide more information or possibilities, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you…
I am just wondering what the correct term is for dog therapy. Like dogs that have arthritis and so they swim in pools. Would it be dog physical therapy or what would the correct job title be for that?
Thanks!
thank you!
