For the past week and a half, I’ve had terrible pain under my knee cap and around the sides of the joint. Sometimes shootin pain will go down my shin or up my thigh. I thought maybe it could be arthritis so I bought some arthritis creme (should have seen the look I got since I’m only 23), anyways, it has helped a tiny bit but not much. I tried taking tylenol but nothing really gives me relief. The first day I thought it was normal but then began waking up with it. I thought also it could be from my hour and a half commute in the car to/from work and then sitting while at work since I’m a secretary.

Any ideas?
I went for a bike ride last night and it seemed to help a little bit. This morning its now my hip and knee on my left leg. If it continues through out the end of the week I will make an appointment to be seen.

Aspercreme isn’t working, it’s just a constant ache/pain.

Why is my back pain uncontrolled?
I am prescribed 5mg/500 Vicodin and it hardly does anything. The only thing it does is put me under the influence. I just took 30mg (six pills), and and I still have the pain in my thoracic area. I also use aspercream. T7/8 vertebrae is slightly degenerated and I have mild arthritis. I attend physical therapy twice a week and do the daily exercises. Do I need a different drug to deal with the pain, its so hard to sleep. For others, one or two will do. I am not a drug abuser either, it just doesn’t want to subside. The doc said if I don’t feel relief within two months I need to see a spine specialist, what would/could they do different than an MD?

I am 20 years old, 6′ 6″ and a slim build.

I understand the effects of hydrocodone and the acetaminophen and was concerned but he said as long as I’m not taking more than 4 grams a day I’ll be fine as far as liver damage is concerned.

I had 60 prescribed mid December and they were done by new years. I had to get more a few days ago because the physical therapy wasn’t taking over like I had expected. Addiction is not present, nor should it be because the only time I take them it is at night to help me sleep and be somewhat pain free. I know I have very little tolerance to it, I just feel high and not relieved of pain, its ridiculous.

The doc said four a day is the limit since he stressed the addictiveness. I just take the four at night but this time i had to up it to see if I could get some relief, but sure enough its still present.

I take many good quality supplements. Whey protein, good calcium from coral, fish oil, DHA, vitamin C, perfect multi super greens, and some others

Thanks for any help provided

Recently I developed pain in both hands and right arm. The pain in right hand is more severe than the left. I tried all kind of pain killers but not relief. My doctor sent me for Xray, ultrasound and EMG and all reports look fine. Doctor is not able to diagnose the problem and has put me on Lyrica. I am not seeing any relief. The pain is shooting pain at times and originates back of my hands and travels all the way up to my forearm. Pain is specially really bad in the morning when I wake up and I feel my hands and fingers are stiff. Doctor has ruled out Carpel Tunnel and Arthritis pain. I am not sure what I need to do next. Its been going on for 3 months and I am totally frustrated and depressed all day. Can someone help or comment on my situation what I need to do. Thanks in advance.
Just to add, I am off work for 4 weeks now and there is no improvement in the pain. The RSI sysptoms should have gone or should have shown sign of improvemnt during this week. But no relief.

I posted a question yesterday specifically discussing my issue. I go tomorrow to speak with my doctor & to essentially BEG for medication.
Here’s the summary:
I am in terrible joint pain (numerous joints NOT muscle)
I am having HORRIBLE head aches each day.
I have “trigger finger” both middle fingers
All cause me very bad DAILY pain (like a 7-9 on a 1-10 scale)
They are looking into the cause & I am waiting to see a specialist (believing its a form of Arthritis or RA, as well as “trigger finger” & “tension/stress head aches”)
In the meanwhile, I am looking for some relief.
Ive tried Vicodin (with very little relief..had to be over 10mg)
Ive tried dilaudid (works when over 4mg)
I take Motrin 800 (every 8 hours religiously)
I take SOMA 250 mg (no help)
I take Tramadol 50mg (no help)
No tylenol works
Its been over 3 months in this pain. I am careful trying to take ONLY one pill per day at the worst pain level.
Can anyone suggest what I can ask the doc for? I need relief!
Let me stress, I want help so I can just function each day. I have 4 kids, Im 29 and Ive been bed bound due to pain. Im irritable and unable to function most days.
Im simply looking for advice (temp) while I work with the docs to find a specialist & figure out whats wrong.. (so far all blood work is NORMAL!)
Ive been on VERY high doses of prednisone (both injection and oral) presently oral is 40mg per day!
Yes YES yes – AM & PM are the worst pain wise…and especially when COLD!
Im tired all the time..but my test results appear that I dont have RA (stumping me!)
Heating pads dont help (tried that!)
As for why i only try to take one med – I sometimes take it twice a day but Ive been VERY careful not to become addicted/dependant…thats why I try to be conservative…plus I have 4 young kids to care for and chase around.
What I have noticed is …I must take ALOT to get relief (almost double the recomended dose)…its like Ive built a tolerance already!
I dont drink or do rec drugs at all….
Im also not sleeping..and have obviously been depressed (not to mention stressed out with frustration!)
Yes Im on birth control (nursing mom so I am on Camila)..(no estrogen)

My mom has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for years. As she gets older nothing seems to truly relieve the pain. She has tried everything from aspirin to Embrel without much success.

About 6 months ago her doctor prescribed Norco, or the generic Hydrocodone-APAP 10/325. She takes 3 to 4 Norco a day, depending on her arthritis pain, although the prescription allows her to take up to 6 a day. This is the first medication that truly has given her real pain relief in years.

Since she is feeling better, her moods have improved and she also has become more active on a daily basis. My concern is that hydrocodone can be extremely addictive. I guess my question is, actually how much hydrocodone does she have to take before she becomes addicted, or is she on a safe dose? Or, perhaps addiction is a better alternative than the pain of rheumatoid arthritis?

Thanks in advance for your responses!!

I and a few hundred thousand of my closest friends are in the same boat. Out of work for 18 months and health coverage has lapsed. My issue is that I have arthritis, tendinitis, and a few other “issues” yet to hit the AMA journals, as a direct result of being shot by a 12g shotgun in my upper arm. It rendered useless two of the three tendons, nerves, and muscle groups. With my right arm in the shape its in, I have still managed to work with it in the construction industry for the past 26 years. which brings me to my left arm. From excessive use (over use) I have developed bursitis in the shoulder, tendinitis in forearm, and arthritis in my wrist. I have undergone 7 surgeries on my right arm and 3 on left {my good arm lol if there is such an thing}. My left wrist had a “Carpalrowectomy” the removal of the floating bones between the fixed bones. It was meant to alieve the pain I was suffering from due to the arthritis that had developed in the removed bones. It relieved it alright…..with a bigger pain. I have never been out of pain since that procedure, and have redeveloped arthritis in the fixed bones that remain in my wrists. In 26yrs. my doctor has maintained my pain medications, steadily increasing the dosage and potency over the years. When I started therapy after injury I was taking 2-4/day Tylenol #3 {5mg hydrocodone} with 2-3/day 400mg Motrin now 26yrs. later it has increased 4-6/day Norco 325/10 {10mg hydrocodone/325mg acetaminophen} and 3-4 800mg Motrin. Sounds like a lot but considering the amount of pain I live with on a daily bases and a 26yr time period It is proportional. Well now that my medical is no longer in effect, I cant begin to describe the “discomfort” level as it appears to me after 26yrs of tolerating the pain under medication. Not to mention the pleasant side effects that accompany the transition to not having any pain medication at all. O.T.C. medication will make me sick in taking enough to relieve some of the aching pain. They do nothing for the spiking or stabbing pain that happens when I clasp on to something to pick it up, or turning/twisting my hand for any reason and the bones grind. Well needless to say the journey has not been fun, since I have lost 17lbs and average approx. 3-5 hours of sleep a night. I have been answering questions in “Maintenance & Repair” for about 6 weeks and have a 30% best answer ratio @ level 4 in that amount of time. I have only asked one other question in that period and it came back unanswered. I hope for a experienced reply {experienced in the field not the pain, I wouldn’t want this for my worse enemy} I am also thinking about giving up and filing for disability. I have never wanted to do it, I would say I have resisted most all notions, until now. I find it hard to think of the rest of my life spent like this, its not a pleasant thought. So I guess my questions is: “What are my options for relief, and should I file for disability?” Thank You for your consideration in reading my woes lol.
Friendly, Thank you for the oils option, I will try the peppermint and I also hear the eucalyptus has soothing properties as well. As for the Foreman position, I have been working with this design/build electrical contractor for the past 11yrs. 10yrs ago I was made Foreman so I could finish out the previous Foreman’s project. 2 years later I was made Project Manager and general whipping post lol. I do believe, that if not for this elevation in status and dashboard training I would have thrown in the towel years ago. Not to say I stopped putting on the tools completely during slow times and when needed I had no problems tossing the hardware on to Get-R-Done because one does what one must when one is all there is lol. And just because I was as my guys heartfelt nickname put it “a uptown girl” did not mean my tools gathered rust. If you have been making a living with the tools your entire life it is a system shock to pull a paycheck without tooling up. I have had a rough time adjusting
I apologize to Eddie for the inconvenience, I’m having a rough go at it right now and looking for experienced responses to help me get through it. If you ever need any advice or support feel free to post whatever your feeling as long as you’d like. I promise I’ll give as thought into it as your…..maybe even more, because that’s what kind of guy I am. Hope your day gets better Pal.
Thank You Steve but I exhausted my extensions for coverage through my union and since getting layed off in Oct. 2009 have filed and been awarded bankruptcy. Even when I was working I would be able to give 3-4 hours in the morning say on a cable crew but I’m out for the day not even able to pick up my Kliens without dropping them 5 times. Or If I spent the day estimating doing take-off’s I’d be fine during counts but come time for entering values into the computer hour long segments with 15-30 pauses……..I cant get no frlippin work done that way. I cant make a living counting fixtures. Steve I come from a long line of Union Electricians Father, Uncle, Grand Dads (I told you this stuff. It may be before I changed user names sry It’s me Mike-LU 180)
Sorry was booted off for some dumb reason. Anyways Thank you guys I have been putting in a lot of late nighters tossing this one around. I have been asked on numerous times why I don’t file and the only answer is I’m not ready. I was 10yrs old when my Dad took me to my fist job site. I worked every summer on a construction site until I joined the 5yr apprenticeship in 82 and haven’t left since. I was able to wire a house by the time I was 15yrs old, and bend pipe accurately {get this Steve} using “center bends” its in my blood and fiber of being. Its all I have ever known or cared to. How can I walk away? You know what I mean don’t you?

I have been seeing my doctor for just about 1 year for chronic pain. I have morning stiffness, headaches, joint swelling/stiffness, pain in joints, shoulder pain, back pain including lower back, my bones crack all day like I am just a skeleton. I concider myself somewhat healthy eat well have a 1 year old that I play with so I get lots of exercise.
My proplem is this:
There is no diagnosis! Doc says that I have ANA Blood but no R factor. I have had MRIs and Xrays done both showing arthritis in my joints, back, and tailbone. I live in pain all day everyday and tylonal and other otc dont work. I can’t take anti inflammatories because there really mess up my stomach. I was put on Ultram/tremadol for about 6 months. I told the doctor 3 times that they werent working that great and she said that is the only thing she can give me at this time since the rhuematoidalogist would be seeing me soon. Which by the way took 4 months to get into thuematoid office due to medical coverage. Well, I seen the rhuematoidalogist and he says that there isnt anything that he sees to shed any light on what is wrong with me. That was 2 months ago. Since then I started to take way to many ultram I was taking about 10-12 a day. I said to myself that that was rediculus so I talked to my doctor and sooo she puts me on Zannaflex, zoloft, and tylanol arthritis.
The zannaflex was one of the first meds she tried me on when I first started to see her. They didn’t work then nor do they help now. I am not really depressed so I don’t know why she puts me on zoloft. And I came into her office taking tylanol for my pain with no relief……I also have to say that before I seen her I was getting Vicodin from a friend. know that it is ilegal to take someone elses meds but with no insurance a new baby and in so much pain what does one do. I took 2-3 at the most a day with excellent relief. I never once abused them I never got “high” off from then. I told my doctor that I had been using them since I believe that you should tell your doc everything be upfront and honest. She looked at me like I was a criminal. And said “well, they probably worked to good and you will not get them here” So here I am over a year later with no answers to my condition being treated for depression and muscle pain with no relief. I have been nothing but honest with her. If I was out to get “Drugs” I would have been out of her office a long time ago . I just want help and don’t know what to do I feel she doesnt even try to listen to me….Oh she also checked me for Hepititis C 4 times because I am sleeved out with tattoos. And one more thing that she told me once when she first put me on Zannaflex I told her that I couldnt take a med that would make me tired because at that time my daughter was 6 months old and starting to pull up on everything….She looked at me and asks “Well do you have a Playpen?”

So, I am wondering what you all think I should do? I want a second opionion but I have no insurance and this doctor is covered through the state. But I have had so much lab work done xrays MRIs I just don’t want to go through it all over again. I am just lost on what I should do……

Sorry to write a misspelled book but I wanted to share all the details
the nurse did say something about Fybromyalgia yesterday when I talked with her….Also, My great grandma had Rhuematoid artritis as well as my great aunt…..I have all the signs and syptoms just my blood work says differant. Even the doctor thinks it is the on set of RA. I have had terrible problems with my wrist since I was around 12 years old just flared up in high geer since I gave birth..
