With small children you need to bend down all day, run, kneel to bathe them, etc… –can’t believe there are no other options- don’t want to be doped up, but at this point that’s an option… Is it because knee relacement is only done once? Why is 50 the magic number? What do you do for the 10 years in between? If you are a 40 year old with the knee damage of an 80 year old, why can’t you get some long lasting relief?

For the past week and a half, I’ve had terrible pain under my knee cap and around the sides of the joint. Sometimes shootin pain will go down my shin or up my thigh. I thought maybe it could be arthritis so I bought some arthritis creme (should have seen the look I got since I’m only 23), anyways, it has helped a tiny bit but not much. I tried taking tylenol but nothing really gives me relief. The first day I thought it was normal but then began waking up with it. I thought also it could be from my hour and a half commute in the car to/from work and then sitting while at work since I’m a secretary.

Any ideas?
I went for a bike ride last night and it seemed to help a little bit. This morning its now my hip and knee on my left leg. If it continues through out the end of the week I will make an appointment to be seen.

Aspercreme isn’t working, it’s just a constant ache/pain.

I am a hypochondriac, so understand and tolerate this.

A month ago or so I posted a question complaining about this knee pain, and was largely told it was nothing, and I should “wait and see”. So I did, and it went away after 3-5 days or so. Since then, I’ve occasionally felt some minor pain and pressure on my right knee for a period of a few seconds or minutes on only two or three occasions.

But yesterday, the exact same sort of knee pain returned.

I didn’t mention it the first time around, but I’ve found that this pain has some odd symptoms to it:

- When I bend my affected knee at a normal 90 degree angle, I feel pressure upon it and my stomach. It often causes me to feel very gassy, making me burp where I would normally not.

- It also causes me to feel only SLIGHTLY nauseous—never enough to induce vomiting, and never so little as to be comfortably tolerable.

- Perhaps related to the nausea, I often feel a slight acidic sensation in the bottom of my throat, like stomach acids churning or lingering in my throat. It does not hurt and does not feel like burning.

- Expedites and/or causes more frequent trips to the bathroom.

All this just from bending my pained right knee. What is this? I’m very certain it’s not arthritis. Is it cancer? I’m not bleeding anywhere or have any tumors.

My 7 year old son about 2 months ago started to complain that his knees hurt. As the month went on, it got worse. We took him to the doctor who ran a bunch of blood tests. Lyme test negative, normal results for normal blood work. His SED rate was slightly higher (meaning he had a swollen joint….we knew that) and ONE of his ANA results was slightly high as well. We were told to go to a rheumitolist which we are, but not until 8/28. Each day the knees seem worse. Motrin helps slightly and he is walking like an old man. Our pediatrician said it could be juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. He is very into sports and the idea of him having arthritis at such a young age is scaring me. Has anyone out there ever heard of a child having this? OR what else could it be? BE HONEST!!! Details, symptoms, etc. Thanks for any advice. PS. We ruled out growing pains as they do not last this long and you do not get swollen knees from that.

I’m 17 and I admit I am over weight but I still think this has to do more with that. when I walk my knees crack and hurt not really all that much walking unless standing for a long time. Note that I’ve been over weight all my life and this is barely happening now. But what is strange is that when I lie down that is when the severe pain starts without any aggravation what’s so ever and if I press in the center of my knee it hurts. Sometimes the pain reminds me of arthritis symptoms but I’m too young for that… Any suggestions?
