so I thought of supplementing with Nupro, and asked on the yahoo rawfeeding group. They said i’d be over dosing my dogs on vitamins and they don’t need any supplements besides omega 3 oils (which my dogs already get)

for those who raw feed your dogs, what do you think? Is a mainly pork diet good enough? I calculate their daily nutrition needs for a month and they don’t have deficiencies with what they eat but most raw feeders i know are feeding more variety like buffalo, venison, rabbit, goat, etc. and I just can’t afford those meats on a regular basis.

I had been feeding ostrich for a few months but raw feeders say mammals are better to feed than birds.

what do fellow raw feeders think please i’d appreciate your input.

glucosamine question:
Is it wise to give a dog who is 1 year and a few months a glucosamine supplement? he’s very active and 65+ lbs. he runs every day for at least 1 hour. i heard glucosamine can be given to young dogs as a preventative for arthritis. is this true?

We heard glucosamine SULFATE may help osteoarthritis and rebuild cartilage but what about the shellfish ban for Hep c patients, glucosamine sulfate is made from the shell of shellfish.

I get worried because he runs every day in the woods/fields. Twice in his life he’s limped for a day after running. so I was thinking about glucosamine…I have dasuquin. i always gave it to senior dogs, but they already had arthritis. Is there anything negative about giving it to a young and healthy dog? to use for prevention? thank you.
p.s. my vet did say it’s ok..that dogs like great danes are given glucosamine supplements at age 1 or even earlier but i just worry too much!:P

My dog is clearly in pain and and is acting very different from how she used to. She’s on Rimadyl twice a day but I also want to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroiting supplements. I bought some from the pharmacy and I have made sure that it’s okay to give it to a dog but I don’t know what dose to give her and how often. I was hoping someone could give me an idea of how much to give a 20 pound dog and how many times a day I should give it.
