My baby is going to be 9 years in September. A few days ago he started limping for no reason. I took him to the vet and today they told me he may have a little arthritis. I’m trying to keep him FAR away from any type of vet meds. Are there other alternaives that can be used to help cope with the pain? What are some really good joint supplements that I can give him? He already gets fish oil. What else can I give him?

BTW: before you say it he’s already on a grain free diet. I feed both of my dogs EVO wet/dry. They get veggies in all of their meals. And he’s an 8 going on 9 year old American Pit Bull Terrier.
To the first answerer: if you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about please don’t make assumptions. I’m not neglecting anything…. it should be apparent since he’s been to the vet for the issue. He can’t use Rimadyle because of an adverse reaction he had to it on another occasion. I hate it when people who kno absolutely nothing about you make these assumptions. If you knew how much money I’ve spent on this dog over the past 8 going on 9 years then you’d know how much I truely care about my animals… I treat them better than I treat myself….. if you’re going to make an assumption like the first jerk off did please keep your answer to yourself. Id much rather read someone elses intelligent response to my question.

I’m 15 years old and my back/neck have always been really tight so I would crack them sometimes. Recently, though, it’s been worse and almost every time i try to crack it, it makes a big noise and my mom tells me i’m going to get arthritis if i keep doing it. is she right?

My 7-year-old Standard Poodle played too vigorously today, and he must have put too much strain on his legs. He’s a little arthritic, I think. I have aspirin, ibuprofen and tylenol in the house, as well as some prescription meds I use for my own arthritis. Would any of these do?

I’ve got an old dog with arthritis in her rear legs, and we are giving her a whole bunch of pills (under the advice of a vet) to keep her going. But she doesn’t like taking them. We’ve gone from cheese slices to ham (she separated the pills from the meat really fast) to peanut butter and now cream cheese, which she is already tired of. I’m aware of the Greenies pill pockets, but they are pretty expensive given the amount of pills involved. Any other ideas out there for something reasonably priced, tasty to the dog, and gooey enough to hide the pills?

My 13 year old cat has some trouble moving and seems to limp sometimes when she walks. I think it may be arthritis.

sometimes it hurts her more,as she moans & figits ,trying to get comfortable

My 14 year old golden retriever freaks out during a storm. The last storm she pulled the steel garage door up open with her teeth and ran into a ditch revene behind our house. She could not get out because of arthritis…Is there anything besides Xanax (that knocks her out) or not locking her in her cage all day while at work that I can do for her? HELP!!!

I live with my boyfriend, his socially inept 40 year old cousin, and his mother. When I first moved in I noticed some thing sort of weird with their pet dog. He had hot spots and appeared to be in a lot discomfort dealing with them. I asked if they had ever given him a bath- he is a decent sized lab mix- and my boyfriend said maybe a year ago!

I was shocked and as time went on I started seeing the mistreatment of this dog. Granted, I come from a home with pampered Maltese, Yorkies and Shih Tzus- but man, this Lab mix- Teddy, gets no love.

So basically, months later, he started looking really bad and he also began to have some real issues with his back legs and walking. He is 11 years old, btw. I finally convinced my bfs mom to bring him to the vet and after two visits, he was given antibiotics and an antifungal ointment. My boyfriend and I gave him a bath and administered the antibiotics- no improvement.

The last visit to the vet, he got more antibiotics and more antifungal bath ointment- but no one gave him the baths he was instructed to have and now it’s too cold to do so. the doc said to bring him back for tests and xrays regarding his arthritis issues…

His mother doesn’t have enough money, or so I hear, to bring him back to the vet even though the Doc said so..

So now the dog is stuck downstairs, living with the disgusting cousin who has no personal hygeine or knowledge about cleanliness. The dog STINKS to high heavens, and he looks so sad. He is trapped in this room that is like a musty stinky cave- as he cannot go down stairs… The last time the cousin let him upstairs despite our instructions, and Teddy jumped down 4 steps landing with his legs all crooked because he is scared to get down the stairs..

I feel like this is an animal cruelty issue without criminal intent. They just don’t have the money, and honestly, don’t care enough about the dog to get him the treatment he needs to his skin problems, eye infection and arthritis- one night Teddy was stuck for a few hours as he couldn’t even stand and he urinated on himself…

Should I report this to the animal shelter? Or see if they will give him up? I feel so SO bad for this dog, if he was mine I would have NEVER let him get to this point- and he just wants to be loved!!! Please help, any suggestions?/ i don’t want to get my boyfriends mom in trouble, but this dog is being treated as a smelly nuisance… and its not right
ha, no i mean my boyfriend and i both care, i mean like the older people in the house who have more money than us dont care…

he isn’t my dog either, i feel terrible for him, but do not have any bond with him, he would be better off put to sleep in my opinion as he is suffering- but how does one go about humanely putting an animal to sleep- the vet?
jana, i appreciate your answer- however i was the one who suggested the vet visits, all three of them- i was the one who gave him that first bath- its not my responsibility as i am a full time college student and have a full time job, i have little to no time or money to properly care for a dog that is not mine- i do what i can , but it isn’t much- thats why i am having a problem here
oh my gosh GUYS, the reason I posted this is because I am trying to help him! don’t say i’m not doing what i can, jesus – it’s not like i’m sitting on my ass all day staring at this dog while it’s in pain…
my boyfriends mother wont even ALLOW me to bath him the bath tub… she refuses to assist with anything, and like i said the dog lives in a disgusting room that I have no control over at all…
okay last time i’m adding details ha- i don’t know if this is going to clear anything up- this living arrangement is temporary, we are moving to chicago soon and cannot take the dog with us…
also- everyone is telling me to take care of the dog- i don’t even know how to do that because he is in such pain and bad shape. i do not have extra money to take a dog to the vet, i just don’t have it- i barely have enough money for my own antibiotics at this point!

My 6 and a half year old dalmatian has recently looked a bit stiff. The vet thinks his right hip is in the earliest stages of arthritis, but not bad enough for meds yet. I’ve been giving him 1000mg capsules of cod liver oil every so often for about 6 months. It’s the same stuff I take myself. I’ve upped the dosage to 1 capsule a day. Does anyone have any views or experience?

He is 14 years old and has developed arthritis. He is a Collie and Weschester Corgi mix.I know weird combination but I love him.He weighs 84 lbs.The vet gave me some medication but it costs $114.00 for 20 pills.I just can’t afford it.He said I could give him aspirin but didn’t say how much.I know not to give him acetaminophen or ibuprofen as it will shut down his liver and kidneys.
