My cousin just called me to tell me that her 12-year-old Golden Retriever,Hannah, has been diagnosed with oral melanoma. The vet gives her about three months.I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this ,and if so,if you know of any natural treatments that may slow or stop the spread of the cancer. It is at the base of her throat. She has some arthritis, but is otherwise healthy. TY in advance.
Yes,I know that Goldens get cancer a lot. There is an experimental vaccine being tested at Ohio State, but it costs thousnads of dollars and is not proven. We were just hoping that someone might have tried something and had some success.

My dog is 11 years old and the vet told us that she has heart worms. I do not know how long she has had them. But she has had problems before with arthritis and and kidney failure, and she is overweight. What are the odd her living through the surgery or treatments?
She also has a little cough, and she is always very tired, I don’t know if this is from the worms or from her age.

I purchased an American Pit Bull Terrier puppy (six weeks old) from a backyard breeder two and a half years ago before i became educated on BYBer’s, i thought $150.00 was a GREAT deal… Boy was i wrong! When my girl was one year old she was diagnosed with
Lymphoma cancer, we put her through chemo therapy plus the other necessary treatment that goes along with that ($9,500), then she eventually had to have her rear leg amputated due to severe arthritis($980), about eight months later, she had severe digestion problems, now she must be on a special food for the rest of her life ($35.00 for a small bag, $140.00 a month.), now she has ear problems (Which requires three medications daily, $150.00 a month.) and skin rashes (She needs to take five medications for the flare ups, $201.00 a month.).. I am very dedicated to my dog and i love her with all of my heart, especially since i can’t have children. The vet believes all of this was inherited from her family. She is also partially blind in one of her eyes. She has had many health problems but she is a fantastic dog otherwise. Has any one had this many issues with a dog from a backyard bred dog?
Has any one had this many issues with a backyard bred dog?*
I have to agree with you there Chigirl, it is A LOT of responsibility and i never expected this… Next time around i will be buying a dog from a responsible, legit breeder that does health testing. My girls’ life expectancy is only six to seven years, if that… So i am appreciating every moment i have with her.
I am quite shocked at how many BYB’d dogs have such severe health problems, actually i’m not surprised one bit as my vet told me this is common in BYB dogs. My APBT has some strange behavor as well, she has minor neurological disorders that will cause her to stand in a certain position and stare blankly at the wall for a few moments, along with her having mini seizures.. The lists of her health problems goes on and on.. To be honest i can’t even remember a couple of them. I have a whole stack of papers with her health problems on them.
Also, to the person that said price doesn’t equal good health – True, but i stated that i would be purchasing my next dog from a breed whom does health testing, so i don’t end up with a case as severe as this one ever again.

Hi i have a 12 year old german shepeard/cow mix and he has arthritis. Hes not dying or anything but he could really use some medicine. He has troubles getting up on wood because he slips but he gets up ok on carpet. He lays down alot but thats normal for dogs. We’ve tried glucosamine and Remodil or something i dont know if i spelt that right. thanks

I have a miniature sheltie and she is 10 years old. she has recently started to become slow pace and seems like shes unhappy. I am 98% sure she has arthritus because for the past couple years off and on she will limp. and act like shes in pain (this has occured on all of her feet). I want to take her to the vet but my mom doesnt believe me. what are some downsides to not treating arthritus? I want to convince her to take her in. I hate seeing my baby in pain. Thanks!

My female Labrador Retriever, Misty, that I would say is roughly about 9-10 years old, has been walking a lot slower than usual, and hasn’t been running and playing with the other dogs as usual. Instead of jumping up and curling up at my side in bed, she’s been laying on the floor, because it’s so hard on her joints to get up on the bed. Is there anything I can make, or buy for her to help her joints? I heard of this fruit drink called Nopalea, but it’s extremely expensive, and is designed for humans anyways, and might not work on her body chemistry. Is there anything I can do/buy to help her? Any and all suggestions are helpful. Thanks.

She’s 15, and has arthritis. One knee is particularly bad, and it severely affects her balance (I thought she had a stroke!) Vet has given her anti-inflammatory medicine, she’s is restricted from excessive activity, and I carry (all 32 pounds of her) up and down the stairs 5 times a day. Still, if I can figure out how to wrap the knee, I think her leg would be more stable, improving both her balance and her comfort.

Than to treat arthritis in dogs?
Forgot the name .. ((

Begins with the letter m.
meloxan or meluxan … I do not remember)
oo..
I was looking for where to buy cheap))
thanks

My dog did not eat on Monday. It had been very warm, she doesn’t like her senior food, and she seemed tired that evening. Next morning when I woke up she ate a tiny bit and went down. Rushed her to the vet, she couldn’t stand she was so weak. After blood tests with an extremely high white count, X rays that showed a large mass, perhaps more, and bad arthritis of the spine. Both vets said that it didn’t look good as at this point surgery would probably kill her. They started her on does of antibiotics, fluids and pain meds. Today she is up, wagging her tail and looking a lot better. Still on IV’s and a sonogram will be preformed tomorrow with another blood test. If the spleen is affected, no surgery as the vets have found the most dogs don’t live a year after having the spleen removed. Something tells me that this is a bad infection as it showed up overnight. I know that this mass could be a tumor but at this point, I would be afraid of surgery at her age of 12 1/2. Has any one had a dog that has experienced this and found that the antibiotics have worked without surgery? I don’t want to put my dog through a lot of post surgical pain. The doctor was also concerned about the extreme arthritis but her symptoms of this are minimal. Thank you in advance.

I have a 15 year old (about to be 16 in April) golden lab that has arthritis in her hips and shoulders. She’s on anti-inflammatory medication, and is doing as well as any 15 year old dog can do. She has a heated orthopedic bed she sleeps on, and we have put a ramp on the back door steps. So physically she’s able to get around our house with ease.

Are there anymore steps we could take to slow the progression of her arthritis? I’d hate for her to get so bad she has to get euthanized before her time.
