my rottweiler seems to have developed a little arthritis in his left rear leg.he is almost six years old and is 104 lbs.does anyone know of any type of vitamin i can give him that will not upset his stomach.

The vet told my wife that our dog has a torn ligament and if we don’t get it fixed, the dog will get arthritis and will have trouble walking for the rest of her life. My wife really wants to get it fixed, but I’m thinking 1400 is a lot of money. That’s over twice as much as we paid for the dog. Also, the dog is 8 years old, so is this really a good investment? I feel bad because she’s been a good dog and I’d like to get her leg taken care of, but 1400 bucks? ouch!
oh geeze… everyone’s making me feel so guilty.. :(

I guess we’ll get the dog’s leg fixed… *sigh*

Does anyone know if a dog can have an inner ear imbalance that will make them feel dizzy. My dog is 12 yrs. and she has been acting different lately. I am not sure if she has Arthritis or Ear infection that is throwing off her balance.
She does not act like her hips or back legs hurt but if she moves to fast or turns her head to fast it looks as if she loses her balance. I have a Vet appointment on Wed.
She does not seem to be in any pain, still acts like a puppy trying to catch snowballs, and playing with my Yorkie. I will make sure I go to the vet, just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem before.
Went to the Vets and she has some inflamation in her ears not a lot but the Vet thinks it is more a narrowing of her pelvis, said is common in Shepard and gave us some steroids and if that doesn’t work will get some arthritis meds. Thanks for all the answers.

My dog has a very painful back leg in the joint which the vet prescribed metacam for, which hasnt worked in the slightest. We have also tried Cortaflex which didnt work. All the sites Ive found on metacam say its for arthritis which my dog hasnt got.

Has anyone used prednisone for their arthritic dog?

Did you see a change? How long until you saw an improvement?

My dog is taking it and the only “side effect” is that she is drinking and urinating more and is a little bit more agitated (takes her a while to calm down).

She is getting two 5 mg a morning for 4 days (day 4 now)
then every two days two 5mg a morning for 4 days
then every two days one 5 mg a morning for 4 days.

Thanks and please NO rude comments

Hes been eating a lot but he just doesnt gain any weight plus hes been walking funny and no sign of him being hit by a car or anything

I will not ‘out’ the member here.

But recently, one of our members has gone begging for money on social media in a quest to save her dog (and maybe, her marriage, as she and her husband are in disagreement on how to proceed with this dog).

The dog: 8 year old large breed dog.

The issues:

ACL tears and subsequent surgeries in both stifles.

Indeterminate masses in the abdominal cavity. Those tested to date have not been cancerous, but there is a new one to be tested.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Needs a home cooked diet.

Hypothryoid.

Dog has had more than 6 surgeries to date, another one scheduled for new abdominal mass. May also have a blood disorder.

The owners have spent more than 50K in vet bills and say that their home is falling apart around them and the car needs replacing. They PLAN to spend 2K per month on vet bills for many non-traditional treatments for her special diet, bowel issues and arthritis. Now the dog has a skin issue, too, which has apparently been the last straw.

One owner has said “enough is enough!” Time to put the dog down. It’s a large breed not expected to live many more years to begin with, and our family is suffering for want of treating this dog.

The other owner has resorted to begging for cash on social media. She will never let this dog go willingly.

What would you advise this couple do now?

At what point do you decide that “enough is enough” when it comes to your dog?

Would YOU beg on social media for help for a senior, ill dog?
I agree that it’s time. I don’t discount the emotional attachment here. But it’s time to let the dog go, and has been for a long time now.

And yes, I think the owner has a mental illness (likely depressive in nature) to continue putting the dog through these measures while her family suffers and the dog does as well. Apparently you can have Munchausen’s with a dog.

She’s in pain, owner is too. But the owner has lost sight of what’s good for the dog and of what’s good for her family. She’s failing them both now. It’s very sad no matter how you look at it. :(
I think the problem is that the husband cried ENOUGH on a minor problem–the skin infection. Wife says we can’t put the dog down over THIS, while failing to recognize the larger picture. She just doesn’t get it. It’s not about the skin infection. It’s about the expected longevity of this breed were it healthy (2-4 more years with a healthy dog, who knows what with THIS dog); the insane amount of money already spent; the annual 24K expected expenditures; the dog’s suffering; the distress to her family in spending this money to no avail.

If my dog weighs 70 lbs and the drug comes as 100 mg tablets how many tablets should my dog get? (1 lb=453.5 g)
