I have Weight Watchers, which I’ve been doing a while and which kind of works. Then there’s a new one which I really like, the alternate day fast, where you eat 500 calories one day and 2400 the next, back and forth. It has great reviews and is reported to be very safe and to reduce inflammation for things like arthritis. If I do the boot camp on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and eat the 2400 calories those days, and then the 500 calories Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, will that give me the energy I need?
I should have said that I have 35 pounds to lose.

My Cat is 17 and she has hyper-thyroidism, low kidney function, and arthritis.

She only weights 6.5 lbs (lost one pound this last 6 months and has stopped eating as much.

I have been giving her Baby food (meat only) for the last month and she really liked it for a while, but has now lost interest. I tried baby formula, but she (for the first time in her life) passed gas that was quite offensive.

I’d like her to be as happy and strong in her old age as possible. So I”m looking for ideas. I’d like to stay away from conventional cat food if possible and provide her enjoyable alternatives (otherwise, she won’t eat..)

Thanks so much, Paula

I currently have them on Wysong Uretic because 1 had issues with UTIs and a yeast infection when she was younger and this is the best urinary food, but I’m just not satasfied with it between the high grain content and non-organic ingredients.. I’m a big advocate for grain free and organic and want to feed them the cat versions of the brands I feed my puppy (By Nature Organics and The Original Pet Food Company) but when I tried to switch to canned a year ago, bingo. Tigger started having issues again. I got to thinking that maybe I could do canned if I supplemented with cranberry extract to acidify their urine. After all, that’s all urinary food does. I hit the internet and came up with a product called Cranimals. So, what do you think? Would it work? At this age they really need the additional fluid in canned food. Oh and btw they’re both totally healthy except Tigger has a little arthritis and they’re both spayed females. Thanks!

20 years ago when my body started hurting my Rheumatologist said I had ‘a little’ arthritis in my feet, but he never said to check back when it gets bad…ugh! Hope I haven’t been damaged too much. The joint swells when I eat ‘gluten’ and ‘soy’..so painful! Thanks yall-

Hi there, my friends, I need your knowledge, experience, and wisdom…

I currently have been eating mostly vegan because (well, yes, of course, my heart is for the animals…
Anyways, also, I have been given a lot of Prednisone over the last few years and now am having “gastritis” so if I try to eat the dairy, I get pain in my stomach and my arthritis flares… There are a number of foods which I have sensitivity to (they “flare” my eyes, please don’t comment on this unless you’ve read first on uveitis)… These foods are most nuts: other than blanched almonds or skinless peanuts, and most all nightshades, onions, certain grasses, etc… I do well with sunflower, flax and sesame seeds (not as certain on the sesame as it was a recent add, and I’m staying away from it a little bit to see whether or not that’s what brought back the Sjogren’s)…
So, um, my question is, I also have low bone density (I’m young and the bone density meds are bad news), should I try taking stomach meds (which I’m told increase the low bone density) and eat the “nice” dairy, skip the dairy altogether and try vegan Calcium sources?… How can I make this a little more healthy/ “raw” (gives me more energy)/ balanced?

B: Rice Krispies
Sunflower seed milk or soy milk (trying to make the soy milk only once per day)
1/2 Banana
Ezekiel bread w/ Smart Balance spread
L or D: Beans
Rice
Flax Seed Oil
Cabbage
or a Veggie Burger w/ Soy Cheese and Nayonnaise, and some lettuce.
Snack: Hummus and Bread? Soy butter and bread?

Anyways, any suggestions would be very welcome…
What kind of greens would you put in a green smoothie?… I guess my concern is pesticides, I had been told by some that I would need to use raw kale or collards in a blender? Organic is expensive for me… I wonder about what the cost would look like to daily get in enough greens, etc.. to boost my calcium intake? (This had been my stand still on that)
I am very sad to hear about your osteomalacia, I pray that you stay in safe conditions and I respect and appreciate your advice.
Wow! Those green smoothie recipes look tantalizing… I had been afraid to eat spinach when I got diagnosed with the osteopenia because everyone said that spinach blocks calcium absorption but has calcium in itself, which was confusing to me! So, I stopped eating it, bad move?
Um, for the clencher, does anyone know why most calcium supplements other than Calcium Citrate, seems to flare my uveitis? I wish I could do another one, people have told me that Peter Gillman’s Cal/Mag is the best for building bones, but it’s calcium carbonate… I dunno… I just feel I need something more potent than my pharmacy brand Calcium Citrate.
Thank you guys for amazing responses, this is going to make for quite a toss-up!

However I have decided to try to eat more(despite the fact that I don’t find healthy food appetizing), and exercise(I don’t find it enjoyable) because I want to get healthy & strong. I know I want 2 get healthier but I’m the kind who need a plan or some1 2 help them start. Can any1 give me some tips on how to eat healthier, exercise routines, or any other advise.

How has your dog’s health been? Have you seen any distinct differences or benefits? My puppy has been on a 100% organic grain-free diet since she was 8 weeks old but she’s only 4 monthes so too soon to tell about long term benefits lol. She eats By Nature Organics, which is just meat, a small amount of veggies, and vitamins. I also supplement with a rotating variety of boiled meats, eggs, and veggies, all USDA organic, and she only gets pure spring water. I’m incredibly strict-she isn’t allowed so much as a milkbone at the vets or an unpurified ice cube. Heck even her shampoo and conditioner are 100% organic. I also have her on several supplements from Flying Basset Organics such as a joint formula (I got it for my cat with arthritis, so I give her some too to keep her trachea strong since she’s half pom), Colostum, fatty acids, stuff like that. All vet approved for safety of course. I do plan to feed her some raw when I can find a supplier of organic steak (plan to freeze and briefy boil to kill surface bacteria) SO, is all my neurotic-ness going to pay off?
Her food is canned. No kibble for MY baby lol
Felidire- I did look into it but I’m just not that brave lol. I’t slightly paranoid of messing something up, so I think I’ll just stick to feeding her part canned food and about 1/3-1/2 extra meat and veggies. I did think of replicating the canned food myself for better quality control, but havn’t had enough time to research each thing just yet. Would hate to leave something important out!

I am 52 years old, i have a heart condition, arthritis, am a diabetic, and have a cripling spinal condition. I take approx 40 tablets a day for my conditions. I cannot exersise due to my disabilites. The thing is i am a vegetarian, i dont eat sweets etc but i am overweight. The last few months i have started to lose weight, i am not on a diet, it started to come off at around a few kilo’s every month, but now it is at 2-4 kilo’s per week. I am heavy at 24 stone, and 6 ft 2 inches high. I know i am fat, but this weight loss is increasing, my clothes are falling off me now, my legs are like pins ! the flesh is starting to sag in all the wrong places. The worry is that it is coming off too quick, i am not dieting, i feel terrible with my illnesses anyway, but i now cant sleep, have very high rate of angina, i have no strength, it is worrying me. I have just had a lovelly xmas, ate all the wrong things loads of sweet stuff, cakes, deserts, loads of beer and wine and have now lost a further 6 kilos in the last week, have also picked up a terrible ailment called “shingles” on my back, basically life is worring me now, does anyone have any idea what is going on with me?.
