Arthritis: Your Natural Guide to Healing with Diet, Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs, Exercise, and Other Natural Methods

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and doctor says that yes, that he understands about my pain in my joints especially in my ankles they swell really bad after a lot of walking.
Any Ideas??????
on a good diet?

Also, I am taking a low dose narcotic pain reliever as needed a couple times per day. When I asked for a pain reliever in this category, they told me that narcotic pain relievers are not normally used to treat RA symptoms. Has anyone else been told this that instead Ibuprophen is reccommended with all the other crap but pain meds not recommended. Also, doctor never mentions anything about vitamins or diet but I’ve heard that eliminating tomatoes helps. Any first-handers that can confirm this? I dont want to take pain meds but it seems strange that they dont consider this a normal treatment for the pain and if diet can help nobody talks about it.

I am a 31 year old woman weighing 156 pounds. I would like to loose 20 pounds in 3-4 months. Last year my weight was 165. I had worked out and ate well to loose 10 pounds. Later I couldn’t continue the workout routine but kept my diet well so that I didnt increase weight. Now, I want to loose more again with exercise and diet again. I have 2 problems.

1) I am already in a 1400/day calorie program. To get a general idea, my menu is like this,

Breakfast
1slice of wheat multigrain bread+1 egg+1 cup of tea with non fat milk and sugar.

Snack: a fruit or low fat yogurt or a coffee.

Lunch
Grilled chicken with steamed veggies/ I can Tuna with green salad/chicken sandwich.

Snack: Tea and a snack that is around 100 calorie.

Dinner
Fruits, veggies, egg/grilled chicken.

Problem is, I can’t go less than this as I am already in a diet plan.

2) I have arthritic pain on my leg joints, especially knees and ankles. So doing a high intensity cardio for 40 min-1 hour which would help me to loose weight is difficult to do as I can’t exercise even if I want to.

My main problem is my belly fat. I have a lot of it and I really want to get rid off it. I dont smoke or use alcohol and not under any medication. Can anyone suggest me a solution?

what is recommended to eat ? what foods should be eaten? what foods should not be eaten?

I think my 6 year old Pyr is developing arthritis, but because I am unemployed (thank you, economy) I cannot afford a trip to the vet. The symptoms are stiffness of the hind hips, and a “high arching” limp.

The first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is hip dysplasia. When I take him on walks it tends to loosen up and by the end of the walk it is relatively unnoticeable.

So I think it is actually just arthritis…. but I know the only way for sure is to take him to the vet and pay a chunk. He’s never had a limp until recent months – we’re in an apartment with all hardwood floors. A few months after moving in he started limping, so I bought him a memory foam bed. That helped for a while but then the limp came back. I have also noticed improvements when I give him senior supplements but now I’m out of those. I am hoping a change of diet can help his condition until I am employed again and can get him to a vet.

I have always fed him Authority Large Breed (the petsmart store brand), but now I am looking for something that could be more beneficial for his condition.

Any recommendations?

For rheumatoid arthritis,it is said that dairy products are the Foods to avoid.

So then what kind of drinks like Tea with cow milk can they have?

It is very difficult to avoid dairy product.

Which is the best drink can they have?

Beg to give a right answer

I was diagnosed with RA in my early 20’s. After I had my son (23), I developed psoriasis and that began my trip into the hell of trusting your doctors (which I don’t- but I kind of do). I was and am continuously told that I will be in a wheelchair before I am 50.

Most importantly I am now 35 and I have little or no pain due to the Arthritis. I do suffer from excessive swelling in my ankles. (HUGE- I am talking Cankles!) Steriods bring the swelling down, but that is obviously not a good solution.

The problem is that no matter what I do- I can’t control it, I cannot sit, stand, or walk too much?!#$% There is no definition as to what too much- so that makes it really hard. I am not overweight by any normal standards (maybe a little  extra)- my first Rhematologist wanted me at 130- I am 5’7” and that has not been feasible since Jr. High.

My family does have a history of psoriasis, but only myself and 1 cousin have the RA. Her problem is more psoriasis, and she has good results on the meds. The doctors have prescribed me Methotrexate, Enbrel, Nabumetone and ointments. They made me sick, or in some cases (Enbrel) violently ill.

Nothing really works. The next choice is Remicade. I don’t want to go there!!! I can’t see sitting in an office for 3 hours while they infuse me with poison to suppress my immune system is going to be any better than the last treatment. A couple of friends recommended a Gluten free diet. I don’t want to give up my protien, however between the options….
