I am perfectly aware that many people will say things like Aids and Cancer. Don’t get me wrong these sre devestating diseases that most definitely need a cure but there are other more forgotten or misunderstood diseases that also need our attention.

Mine (you can have as many as you like, though let’s keep it at between 1 and 5) are Epidermolysis Bullosa, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Schlerosis and Huntington’s Chorea.

1. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare skin disease. This genetic disease is characterised by a lack of a certain protein in the skin. The lack of this protein causes skin to blister easily and painfully. Sufferers also suffer from alopecia (hair loss which has it’s negatives), blisters around the eyes and nose, blisters inside the mouth even which leads to eating and swallowing problems which would obviously cause many problems like lack of nutrients and poor weight due to not being able to eat properly, blisters caused by minor injury or temperature change, dental problems like tooth decay, pimples and similar skin conditions, nail loss/deformed nails.

They have a heightened risk of skin cancer but on its own it isn’t deadly but still I’m sure this would cause poor self esteem, anxiety (due to always being anxious about being careful not to blister), depression not to mention be extrememly dehabilitating and painful. It’s not common but just like my other two needs-to-be-cured they are nasty and painful and no one should have to live through that.

2. Osteogenesis Imperfecta. You may also know this as Brittle Bones Disease. It is an uncommon bones disorder in which the bones are lacking in collagen, a protein that prevents bones from breaking. There are different types from very mild to death at birth. Sometimes the bones are so brittle that lightly tapping a brick wall could shatter the bones in their hands. Many people with OI end up in wheelchairs, their growth is usually stunted (some don’t grow past 3 feet tall), they get hearing problems, respiratory issues, scoliosis, a shitload of pain, depression (who wouldn’t get depressed from constantly being in pain, not being able to be a normal kid, probably having to be in a wheelchair and the chance of never having full independence. This is genetic in case genesis didn’t tell you that so you have it from birth), anxiety, barrel shaped rib cages and bowed limbs (which would cause other problems too) and a lack of self esteem due to their often differing appearance.

3. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Basically this is getting arthritis as a kid. My best friend has it and altohugh hers is a lot better than it previously is (so much she regularly goes to the gym and has a personal training certificate) but it’s caused her a lot of pain. She’s had a lot of therapy including hydro and physio and medications that have done crap things to her body. Many people think only old people can get arthritis but that isn’t true at all so this needs a cure because kids shouldn’t have to suffer from arthritis (or any of the above things) when they’re meant to be happy, running around etc.

4. MS: A slow going incurable disease that attacks the nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord. It is a slow death (and death always results) causing loss of balance and coordination before later on the person is no longer able to swallow or breathe on their own. Not a nice way to go and so needs a cure.

5. Huntington’s Chorea. Very similar to MS it is genetic disease (if you have a parent with it your chances of getting it and not getting it are 50-50) in which nerve cells in the brain cell waste away. The symptoms are similar to MS with loss of balance, coordination, eventual paralysis, speech difficulties to not being able to swallow or breathe on own and then eventually death. Most people are diagnosed in their early 30s when symptoms begin to show and generally live 10-15 years after diagnosis so it’s a very long, cruel drawn out death. No doubt this needs a cure and fast.

Okay these are my five. What disease/s do you think depserately needs a cure?

I also think idiocy needs a cure but as this isn’t a proven medical condition I won’t talk about this.

I’ve had this costochondritis pain for months now, I’m 23 and its insanel annoying sometimes. Would an arthritis type of doctor maybe be qualified to look into this?
