LLBEAN has some really nice big dog beds there prices arent that bad!!
Our dog has a bad hip and we have been having him lay on a crib mattress for about a year now – and it’s done wonders for him! He gets up normally in the mornings now, rather than struggling to lift himself up. Why do you need a “shorter” mattress? If you keep the regular sized mattress, you can just get crib sheets (preferably dark ones!) at the local thrift stores and they are great for washing. I change them out twice a week and he has a fresh new bed! It’s great! Ask around and see if you can find an old mattress at a flea market or yard sale or on criagslist. People get rid of them all of the time. We bought ours at Target and it was about $40. Much less than an actual pet bed.
Plus, if they ever get sick on the bed, it’s waterproof since it’s got the plastic covering! I’d say just get the full sized and he’ll love it!! More room to spread out on (we actually have 2 dogs that sleep on the one mattress)!
