My dog needs glucosamine for arthritis. Can you please tell me about getting it for him?
He is a 65 pound neutered male with kidney disease. Because of the kidney disease he can not take any type of anti-inflamatory. Where can I get glucosamine? How much do I give him? Will it work as well as a prescription medication? etc?
There are many dog foods now for older dogs that have glucosamine in them. Try Iams
It’s available in most drug stores, although often combined with condroitin. The usual dosage is one or two tablets (depending on the strength) three times a day for humans, so a dog at 65 lbs. should probably have one of those once a day.

try your local feed store, they have all kinds of shots, and things like that, that you can administer to your dog yourself. good luck.
You can find it cheapest at your Livestock feed supply. Buy the one for horses, and save a bunch!
You can also get it at any pet supply shop, or in the people food supplements at your pharmacy or WalMart, or Large Grocery store. It WILL help.
The ddirections for amount to give per weight is on the package. Or you could go to http://springtimeinc.com/ShowView/product/94/2 and get joint health chewables. Or for a powder:>> http://springtimeinc.com/ShowView/product/131/2 They are very fast shipping, and great to deal with.
Go to Entirely Pets website. They have a soft-chew glucosamine w/chondroitin (necessary to make the glucosamine work). There are different strengths. We use triple strength for our large (75 lb+_ old arthritic dog. It works wonders!! Some of our friends have also tried it with the same results.
When you decide where to get your glucosamine,be sure to ask your vet about correct dosage. You want to make sure that the kidney problem will not change what the correct dosage is,for an otherwise healthy dog.Another good online site for dog supplies and supplements is below.
