Why dont you ask the vet that diagnosed the dog what exercise would be best for your dogs condition?
make sure you give her glucosamine if you are not already.Good Luck!
my 120 lb has arthritis in his shoulder. vet said not o over work it. check with your vet.
I would ask your vet that question. They are the best people to consult on stuff like that, being they are familiar with your pets history/case.
I know there are medications to help ease arthritis, but to my understanding it’s long term.
Like I said, call your vet and ask them the prognosis and what they recommend you do to help make your pet comfortable.
It depend upon its age. Consult your Vet cause some dogs are not able to be exercised; depending upon their health.
Don’t overwork your dog. You can get supplement tabs such as Nutri-Vet Glucosamine & Chondroitin that really help with arthritis in pets. You can find a lot of treats with those ingredients in them too. That should help! Check any dog supply websites, or your local pet store, and they can point you in the right direction. Are you feeding your dog a good food? Stay away from Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc. Go to your local pet store and they can reccommend something that will keep you dog more healthy in general.
Swimming would be a great form of exercise for her, but moderate walking is good too. If she is carrying any extra weight, then yes try to get her to lose it. Every pound she loses is another pound that won’t cause undo stress on her joints. Talk to your Vet about glucosamine supplements, she should start on them now and continue taking them for life. The ones that are made for dogs are well tested and do help the majority of dogs. Just don’t buy the human stuff, our market is not well regulated and you may be buying junk. I don’t know if you are a fan of commercial diets, but Hills has a new diet on the market (sold in Vet clinics only) called J/d. It’s expensive but has a proven track record. The J/d stands for joint diet. Worth looking into if her arthritis gets worse. And no, I don’t think arthritis goes away. All we can do is try to slow down its progression.
I had a dog with severe arthritis once and was told to give him asprin.Make sure it is coated so it won’t upset the stomach but it really did help him after it was so bad that there was nothing else that they could do for him. Won’t cure it but will help with the pain .
add fish oil & glucosamine to her food…and mild exercise is good to stop the stiffening up!
My old boy has it badly in his hips & stiffens up if sitting too long BUT he loves his walks & still bounds around like a twit!
Exercise will keep her fit and the joints mobile. Just don’t take her on a 100mile trek!
Good luck
