My dog has really severe arthritis what should I do to help him?
Mу vet perscribed hіm οn Rimadyl, bυt nο matter hοw much rest οr hеlр wе give hіm hе still саn’t gеt up οn hіѕ οwn. Hе appears tο bе іn pain аnd discomfort аnd οthеr thаn medication frοm thе vet, I don’t thіnk thеrе іѕ anything wе саn really dο fοr hіm. I thіnk wе′ve pretty much accepted hіm fοr whats left, bυt аll ουr friends аnd family ѕау іt mау bе time tο рυt hіm down. I lονе thіѕ dog tο death, bυt seeing аnd hearing hіm іn such pain іѕ getting harder fοr mе аnd mу family.
Really– put him down. You can always buy another.
They have other pain medication out that can help him…there is a new one on the market these days…it’s like prevecoxx or sumthing like that, but its supposed to be really good for arthritis with little side effects. Ask your dogs vet about it and if he could prescribe it for your dog.
if he walks up places get him a ramp or if he doesnt walk up u can get apersonal massue or massage therapist and get him to feel better
HOPE I GAVE U GOOD INFO
go to walmart and get him some MSM, it works wonders I give to my lab who is 17 and it really helps, plus it isn’t as expensive.
How old is he? As hard as it is to accept, maybe your friends are right. You have to ask yourself an honest question. Am I keeping him alive for whats best for him or am I keeping him alive for myself. That being said, I have found that there is a product in the pet stores called renewal. It’s like glucosamine. It will help repair some of the damage to the joints etc but sometimes there is nothing that can be done. I hope you can help him or do the right thing. Good Luck!
i think its time to consider what is best for your dog… AS your dog. if you could make your own rational choice to help alliviate your own suffering from severe arthritis — medication or other — what would you choose? what would you choose to help your family (in dealing with your arthritis).
i also want to point out that despite the insensitive reply to the first poster.. ‘you can just get another’ is about as pathetic of a reason for death as i’ve ever heard. i can’t believe thats the first post. disgusting human
Go to your Vet, ask about a product called Deramaxx. It’s one of the newest pain/anti-inflammatory meds out. But you have to weigh your odds, I know this dog is probably your heart and soul. But if his bad days are starting to outnumber the good days, then it’s about time to start thinking of what’s best for him. Now, I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but this is one of the hardest things for an owner to decide. And most of the time we find that owners keep them going on for their own being. Not saying your selfish. **this can be a tricky subject** But if he’s painful and sore lets say 5 days out of the week, then it’s about time to start thinking about other options. It may just be in his best to let him stop hurting. And usually they do pretty good on medications until they get to the point where they can’t get around on their own. Then it just doesn’t seem to get any better from there.
There are these doggie strollers that they have for older dogs. You could get one of those and push him around like a baby
Hope I can help!
You can ask your vet about putting him on Derramax, or upping his dose of Rimadyl. You can also try getting some Glucosamine chews. You can get them as treats, like at Wal-mart, or you can get some chew tablets from your vet. Try to make his life a little easier, like getting him ramps instead of stairs.
If you really love your dog, then as hard of a decision that it is, you might want to have him put down. If he is in a lot of pain, think what would be best for him.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
thats the only thing wrong with my dog.. he’s a boxer . has
arthritis bad… takes him a few minutes to get up after laying
down…. sometimes I help him,…. I lift his hind legs…. thats
where he has it the most……and as long as i can pick his ass
up—-i willnot put him down…. he’s my family…. and you don’t
put your parents down just because they have arthritis…..
I am so sorry. I know how much our dogs mean to us, and how hard it is to accept the end. No guarantee, but seriously, try a product called Cetyl-M. You can do a search on the internet
I wish you the best
