My dog appears to have pain in her rear leg
My dog holds her rear leg up at times. This isnt consistent. I cant tell if it is a leg cramp, or arthritis, but a friend and a vet suggested Bayer unless it gets worse. Has anyone ever used Bayer for their dog? She is a small Yellow Lab mix, weighing about 55 pounds. I am not sure whether to give her a children’s Bayer or a half an adult’s Bayer.
how old is your dog?
if hes old it could be arthritis (my dog has it, but ive never heard of giving a dog bayer) if a vet suggested it it should be safe, but i would go with kids just incase
get off the computer and take her to a vet.
Aspirin is ok for dogs, but not for cats. To reduce stomach irritation, use buffered aspirin or give aspirin at mealtime. For chronic arthritis pain, we have prescription drugs that are much safer and far more effective. Giving your dog aspirin more often than twice a week is a probably a bad idea.
Use 325 mg aspirin tablets.
A 55 to 80 lb dog may be given one tablet twice a day (every 12 hours) or 1/2 tablet three times a day (every eight hours). A 30 to 40 lb dog gets half as much; a 15 to 20 lb dog a quarter as much.
My older dog wieghs 50 lbs and she used to do the same thing. She was playful and ran a lot as a pup and has an achy hip. We use glucose/joint supplements on her..after a couple of weeks she never gimped on it again! I am sure the bayer would have a similar outcome. I would use the adult pill. They also make treats that help with joint and bone aches as well. Check out your local petstore for them. My dog LOVES them!
Your vet should have told you whether to go with the kids bayer or adult. I would look into getting a second opinion from another vet.
I would not use human aspirin unless it is an emergency and then only liquid infant drops – small amount.
Could be a hip dysplasia, could be legg, calve Perths, (http://www.vetsurgerycentral.com/legg_calve.htm) might be ligiment damage
take dog to vet for an x-ray
