Well it depends. Usually people that crotchet or knit develope a sort of arthiritis. There are these things called knitters gloves, that I don’t know how but are supposed to prevent arthiritis. I thunk you should look into these things.
dont think so i am knitting from i was seven year old now sixty seven no pain at all go ahead and knit wish i was young again i would have lots of waistcoats and sweaters
for a lifetime best knitting sew n sew
I’ve been knitting for over 50 years AND have arthritis. I don’t believe the knitting caused it. It does help to work the stiffness out when I knit or crochet. Now if I could think of something to do about my hip……..
Seriously, go right on knitting. Out of all the things that you could be doing at 17, I promise knitting is the least harmful!
Knitting will make your hands stronger and more flexible. If you have pain while knitting, take a break. If it’s chronic, try compression gloves. Basically, they are super elastic wrist braces that give you support while you craft. I use mine when I type too much too!
Many people believe the opposite is true. Knitting may stave off arthritis, by keeping the joints nimble. I suspect that arthritis has a genetic component, so you may get arthritis, but knitting will stave it off, and may reduce its impact. At 17, you do not have to worry, and you will have lots of gorgeous sweaters to keep your joints warm!
No, I don’t believe so, but perhaps carpal tunnel.
I think your friend is confusing two different conditions. Movement does not cause rheumatoid arthritus. You might develop a repetitive strain injury [ RSI ] – I did – but knitting will actively keep arthritus at bay… and to get RSI from knitting you would probably need to do it for 12 hours a day every day :]
Enjoy your new hobby!
Maybe a little( but not the bad kind of arthritis (Rheumatoid) But whatever it is definitely a wonderful past time and very satisfying and worth a little stiffness……..
