I think my dog is sick, what should i do?!?
Okay so i have a dog, who is around thirteen or fourteen. I know she has allergies, and some arthritis, but is not taking medicine for either. Today, she threw up all over the house, and she wont eat or drink. I even tried giving her regular food, but she wont take anything. I’m really worried, shes my best friend. If i need to go the vet, I’m going to have to convince my parents to take her. So any ideas or advice would be hugely appreciated.
Take her to the vet to be examined. Thats what I would do.
Hope everything goes well
I would call the vet, maybe you will have to go, but i would recommend a call at least solely on the basis of her age and her history of ailments which are also unmedicated. Is there any chance she could have eaten something she isnt allowed? I hope she gets well.
If it was MY dog, we would have been to the vet already.
You should not have to convience your parents— the dog is sick, the dog is part of the family, the dog goes to the vet!
ok my grandmas dog had a similar problenm he wouldnt eat or drink
so my grandma took like this giant eyedropper thing (lol idk what it called but u like squeeze it and the stuff in it comes out) she filled it with baby food and then just grabbed the dog and like shoved the food down his mouth lol and she didnt let him spit it out she held his mouth close till he swallowed it (basically force feeding him lol) he ate all the food and the next day he was fine
i was like wtf lol but i was happy but now he died like a few months ago =(
so i suggest force feeding him and just sitting wit him (maybe he like depressed so pet him a lot lol idk just tryin to help giving advice lol hope ehs ok cya
My dog goes through days where he wont eat or drink anything, usually after he has had a vomiting episode. It’s usually that he ate something he shouldn’t have . Chances are its nothing, but given your dogs age and history, you should definatly call your vet. Better be safe than sorry. Good luck, hope your doggy gets better.
Unfortunately kidney disease can manifest itself in elderly dogs. Symptoms of this are vomiting, lack of appetite and changes in drinking. You really need to have your parents take the dog to a vet (or even an emergency clinic). Kidney failure causes the body to poison itself and leads to multiple organ failure. At the very least, your dog needs to have a blood panel drawn and a urinalysis.
What you can do: 1. check the dog’s gums–are they pale (whitish) or pink (you want pink), are they moist, sticky, dry (moist is what you want); 2. gently pull the scruff of the neck–does the skin immediately go back to normal or does it take a second or two (it should return to normal immediately). These test for dehydration. If the kidneys are not functioning properly, your dog may need hydration therapy at the vet.
Please make sure your parents know that the dog is older and health issues really need to be addressed quickly. Good luck. I can tell you really care about your little girl.
