NEVER EVER GIVE YOUR DOG PEOPLE MEDICINE!!! AT LEAST NOT WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR VET! DO YOU WANT TO KILL YOUR DOG???? Why don’t you just ask your vet?
your name suits you if you don’t know that before giving your dog anything you MUST take them to a vet for a diagnosis…not just your hypothesis.
Go to the vet, they will give you something or call them if you want them to just suggest what could work & be okay for the dog.
take her to the vet they can give you the proper perscripsion for how far along her arthritis is.
I know I will get thumbs down for this but…
I was talking to a woman on a walk who was walking her old Lab who had arthritis. She told me that she gave him half an Ibuprofen a day and it helped him enormously.
If your dog is smaller than that, perhaps only a quarter a day?
ADD: Also consult your vet though, just to be on the safe side.
And it wasn’t me that did this, it was just a woman who I was talking to.
My retriever had arthritis and the vet told me to give him a baby aspirin when his symptoms were acting up…it seemed to help a lottttt!
I do not recommend baby aspirin. Prevention is a lot better than treating. Depending on your dog’s age and breed, it would have been better to add some glucosamine & chondroitin when she was 2-3yrs old. Is she used to exercising? If she was used to it and somehow it has decreased, that’s a reason for it.
Best thing that I have heard working is Meloxicam (Metacam), however you need to make an appointment with your vet because they do not sell this over the counter. With the meloxicam, you can either put it over the food or directly in her mouth, and it’s only once a day, in the morning. It’s a liquid, but can be compared to gravy due to its consistency. It comes in chicken, beef and carrot flavour, however I’m pretty sure you can have other flavours if you request it.
Arthritis is a very painful and degenerative disease.
Baby aspirin is for babies not for dogs in severe pain.
The first thing you need to do is get your dog to the vet, and have her diagnosed. Then the vet will prescribe the right medicine for your dog and the right dosage.
Do not give animals human medicines.
You are not a veterinarian, and neither am I or many of the people on here. She needs to be seen by a vet to see if its even arthritis! It could be something very serious!
Dr. Dog
A dog can take aspirin (NOT Tylenol or Ibuprofen)
Just like with people, you want to give it to pup after he’s eaten. If you take aspirin on an empty stomach it can tear your stomach up – same with your pooch.
I give 2 of my dogs an aspirin every day. I put them in a pill pocket and my dogs scarf them right up.
My mother gives her dogs aspirin but putting a small amount of water in a shot glass and dropping the aspirin and letting it dissolve -then pouring that over their food.
Here’s some info I found on the dosage. This page has an easy to read chart.

My dogs are 60-70 lbs. I give them each 1 regular aspirin twice a day.
For a smaller dog – baby asprin will work. All baby aspirin is….is grown up aspirin but the pills are a lower dosage.
Other things you can do to help when her arthritis is acting up:
massage her hips and shoulders. When you are sore – a nice massage helps. You can massage your dogs hips, shoulders and back. All those sore arthritic areas.
Go to any store that sells horse supplies. They have a product that might help – mix a small amount with water and massage it onto your pups sore areas.http://www.statelinetack.com/item/absorbine-veterinary-liniment/SLT170400%20032/
You can also give your pup glucosamine supplements. You can purchase a dog food with it and/or you can give a supplement. I give my dog the Synovi G3.

These are things that I have done for my aging pups. Hope they help give your pup some relief.
With your dog being that old then I would think she does have arthritis. I asked my mom and she gives her dog one asprin in the morning and one in the evening for it her vet told her it was ok. I think Charlie is about 10yrs old and about 50lbs.
