During the “recession of 80’s” I worked nights in a large drug store. This old, old, old lady would go up to the “Chemists” as she called them and would order:
10 aspirins
2″ Bengay
and I forget how much Menthol Isopropyl alcohol
They made it up for her and she swore by it. When I worked as a volunteer for hospice, I had a cancer patient that I made a batch for and she said it made all the difference in her pain. I believe I used enough menthol alcohol to make a paste. It does send aspirin and what ever is in Bengay right to the area.
As for myself, I am allergic to all meds (not all but enough I don’t dare use anything other than aspirin or tylenal) so I use just the Menthol Alcohol for some relief. Smells good, too.
My best to you, I know this must be so frustrating.
If you have a prescription from your doctor, there are many stores, such as Fred Meyers, Wal-Mart and others who have a special $3.00 cost for many prescriptions. You can also look up the manufacturers of your meds on the internet for low cost to no cost programs.
If you use the menthol, please let me know if it helps.
Don’t forget to deduct ALL medical items from your taxes, including a taxi to the doctor, hospital or to get medications. This includes OTC drugs.
the warmth and support help keep her joints happier.
I am not a doctor but to suffer from arthritis also. Mine is in my ankle that I injured playing sports as a teenager. Fast forward in time 25 years and I’m in the same boat as you. I live in a cold climate and work outdoors year around near the water. If my feet get wet and cold I literally can hardly walk the next day. My ankle will swell up like a balloon. As the years went by it got worse. My regular doctor sent me to see an orthopedic specialist. He put me through the whole nine yards examinig me, x-rays etc. The course of action he took was a Cortisone shot. He first took a syringe and drew out the fluid in my ankle and then gave me the Cortisone shot. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be pain wise. After the shot my ankle felt tired for the rest of the day. It seemed to take about 10 tens days before the normal pain and swelling began to subside. To me it is a miracle drug. The doctor also told me that as crazy as it may sound and as difficult that it may be exercising the area inflicted is one of the best things that I could do. I have followed his advice and it has been much much better now 4 years since the shot.
I wish you all the best and hope my experience can help you in some way.
