I use glucosamine chondroitin for my 13 year old hound. It works real good. I find it cheaper to buy the stuff for people than the one they have for dogs and it works just as well, if not better. This was recommended by my vet. Just make sure you get the triple strength one. It comes in regular, double strength and triple strength. You can use the regular or double strength, but have to give them more of it.
I give it to my dog everyday, not just when he is having a bad day.
Hope this helps you. Good Luck!
You should obviously check with your vet as the first step. However, glucosamine chondratin is a standard daily tablet that does not require a prescription from the vet. It is definitely helpful for dogs (and people as well). If there is a Trader Joe’s in your area, start there — they sell a bottle of 100 pills for $9.99. Also, I give my 16 year old hound mix a prescription medicine called Medicam. It is very effective, but very expensive. You can only obtain it from a vet.
We have an 11 year old Lab/Retriever mix with arthritis. Every morning we give him a “Senior Dog” vitamin. You can get them at WalMart and they’re inexpensive. We also have him on Eagle Pack dog food. It’s pretty expensive, but the difference it makes in his fur and his joint pain is remarkable. He runs and jumps like a puppy. You might want to give it a try. They have a website if you need to see where it’s available in your area. We also have our cats on Eagle Pack cat food. Good luck!!
ask the vet
An 81mg (baby aspirin) might help
