How much would some Arthritis medicine for my Shetland Sheep dog cost?
Our dog is almost 8 years old and we think he has Arthritis. We are going to a vet soon, but we wanted to know how much it is going to cost. Also, would he have to take it the rest of his life?

Your Vet will probably recommend Rimadyl. It is used for inflammation of the joints. Like hip dysplasia. It is kinda expensive but the results are what makes it worth it.
The best way to determine what the price would be is to visit the vet first. Then find out the name of the medicine the vet will recommend. My vet gives my Terrier shots every 2 months of cortisone and it costs me like $20 for the injection plus the visit. But the benefits are worth it to my 11 year old dog. Keep in mind that many pet medicines are human drugs, and can possibly be purchased cheaper from a pharmacy than from the vet themselves. I used to get my dogs seizure medicine from the pharmacy for $5 a month compared to $30 a month from the vet. Above all I hope your Sheltie is ok?
look into aspirin therapy or natural supplements – just type in arthritis in canines and you should get alternative therapy’s.
remember vets. are expensive and some medications that treat a problem can cause other problems , such as liver dysfunction / the liver has to filter any medication that the animal takes.

For pain and inflammation, I recommend that you ask him about a medication called Metacam. Like Rimadyl, it is frequently prescribed for doggie arthritis, but Metacam is a bit cheaper ( I believe about $20 a month). My geriatric dog tried both, but she did best on Metacam. It made her happy; she ran around and enjoyed being pain free. You’ll also need a glucosamine supplement, which are very cheap if you buy them from an online pet pharmacy.
i own two shelties one of them is 12 years old he get 3 or 4 baby aspirin every morning and evening because i can not give him Ramadal because he is allergic to wheat. the baby aspirin works well for him.
