Most pet stores sell glucosamine for pets. I had a cat with arthritis who responded well to it.
“Glucosamine can also assist with dog’s inflamed discs, siatic nerve, and inflamed joints associated with aging.”
We gave our dog asprin. He was a bigger dog. 100 lb shepard. We gave him 2 asprin in a hot dog. Vet said it was fine. Depending on size of yours, just adjust. It’s terrible to watch i know. Poor thing. Good luck to you & your beloved pooch!
go to http://www.detour23.com and order some Level 5000, it is a liquid glucosimine and it will work wonders with your old girl. I give a little dog 3-4 cc’s 2 x a day on a bad day, on an average ok day, 3-4 cc’s 1x a day—you can get a syringe for dosing from your vet. With a biog dog, I would probably give 6-9 cc’s.

OTC pain killers, (ask your vet 1st), vitamins, (glucosamine, it works in humans too), even acupuncture. In some cases sugery or physical therapy.
Keep the dog warm, cheap wool blanket in the bed http://www.cheaperthandirt.com don’t leave the dog outside too long in the rain, snow, or damp weather. Let the dog sleep indoors, on a comfy oversized bed.
kick it in the poubets
I have the same problem too in my Golden. Give you kid w/ fur, glucosamine. Try a LOW heat when she lays down, only for a while. Be carefull of the meds you vet prescribes. They can cause liver damage! It happened to mine. Be aware that aspirin can cause stomach damage. The antibiotics shouldn’t be used for a long time. They can wear down the immune system. Be happy your dog is 14. Mine is only 4! It breaks my heart! Have you looked into massage? If a vet around you does not offer, go to the library and get some books on it. It really helps. They also make some tighter padded “braces” for ankles and elbows they can help when they lie down on the floors to prevent the hurt from the hardness. I am geared toward a “holistic” mind frame. I know that alot of people don’t agree, but when the medicine you put you pets on, causes more problems down the line, it is not worth it. Hope this helps.
I would not recommend aspirin–it nearly killed my 14 year old dog 2 years ago. She started to bleed in her stomach. Ask your vet. By the way that dog lived to be 16 & just died this week–I am very sad.
