Okay, so here the story. My parents have had this dog since I was little. Her name is Allie and she’s a gorgeous half labrador retriever, half doberman pinscher. She a very old dog and has been getting arthritis lately, I think. I’m not sure because I no longer live with my parents, I live in an apt with my bf. The last time my mother took Allie out for a walk she told me that Allie collapsed. She didn’t seem too worried though. She thought it was just old age. My parents left last sunday on vacation and they left my bf and I to house sit. That’s where it all went wrong. I dont think my parents noticed but it seems like maybe a day or two before they left, Allie stopped eating her food. She stopped moving around. My bf and i woke up one morning to feed her and she was collapsed by her food bowl with the food tipped over and spilled everywhere. It looks like she had a stroke, or something, i dont know. I’m really scared for her. It looks to me like her entire left side is paralyzed, she cannot move that side at all. The day before she stopped moving, I was playing with her on the deck and she was stumbling all over the place. Her head kept veering off to the side and would nearly make her topple over. I didn’t know what to make of it. We called my parents and told them what was going on and they could only offer a little advice. They can’t come home any earlier because they are visiting my grandmother in the hospital, and she’s not going to be around much longer. It’s such a huge load to just leave on my shoulders, bcuz i dont know the first thing to do! We checked her to make sure she had no broken bones and moved her from outdoor area over on to some nice grass. We laid her down on some old blankets and made a lean-to for her. We used an old tarp and some poles and jute twine and made it really sturdy so there is no chance of it falling over. So she is as comfortable as we can possibly make it for her. She can’t eat any of her dry dog food, so we came up with a new way to feed her until my parents get back. We blend up her food with some water and food her the mush with a spoon. She loves it she just gobbles it up like nothing, you can tell she was very hungry. We give her water from a purified filter in the house and drip into her mouth with our hands. Right now she still cannot move her left side and she is constantly trembling. I am so scared, so can someone please tell me any information regarding what could be wrong with her and what I can do to help her. Keep in mind that my parents are gone, they are definitely unable to come back any earlier, and my bf and I do not have the money available to get her vet help. We are literally just making it with bills and rent to pay. Please help though, I can’t stand to see her like this. I can’t even tell if she is in pain or not, but I’m thinking she is :(
