Has my parent’s dog had a stroke?
Okay, so here the story. My parents have had this dog since I was little. Her name is Allie and she’s a gorgeous half labrador retriever, half doberman pinscher. She a very old dog and has been getting arthritis lately, I think. I’m not sure because I no longer live with my parents, I live in an apt with my bf. The last time my mother took Allie out for a walk she told me that Allie collapsed. She didn’t seem too worried though. She thought it was just old age. My parents left last sunday on vacation and they left my bf and I to house sit. That’s where it all went wrong. I dont think my parents noticed but it seems like maybe a day or two before they left, Allie stopped eating her food. She stopped moving around. My bf and i woke up one morning to feed her and she was collapsed by her food bowl with the food tipped over and spilled everywhere. It looks like she had a stroke, or something, i dont know. I’m really scared for her. It looks to me like her entire left side is paralyzed, she cannot move that side at all. The day before she stopped moving, I was playing with her on the deck and she was stumbling all over the place. Her head kept veering off to the side and would nearly make her topple over. I didn’t know what to make of it. We called my parents and told them what was going on and they could only offer a little advice. They can’t come home any earlier because they are visiting my grandmother in the hospital, and she’s not going to be around much longer. It’s such a huge load to just leave on my shoulders, bcuz i dont know the first thing to do! We checked her to make sure she had no broken bones and moved her from outdoor area over on to some nice grass. We laid her down on some old blankets and made a lean-to for her. We used an old tarp and some poles and jute twine and made it really sturdy so there is no chance of it falling over. So she is as comfortable as we can possibly make it for her. She can’t eat any of her dry dog food, so we came up with a new way to feed her until my parents get back. We blend up her food with some water and food her the mush with a spoon. She loves it she just gobbles it up like nothing, you can tell she was very hungry. We give her water from a purified filter in the house and drip into her mouth with our hands. Right now she still cannot move her left side and she is constantly trembling. I am so scared, so can someone please tell me any information regarding what could be wrong with her and what I can do to help her. Keep in mind that my parents are gone, they are definitely unable to come back any earlier, and my bf and I do not have the money available to get her vet help. We are literally just making it with bills and rent to pay. Please help though, I can’t stand to see her like this. I can’t even tell if she is in pain or not, but I’m thinking she is
Well all I can say is this poor animal needs to go to a vet asap. Maybe your parents can call the vet and pay for it by credit card but it is just unthinkable to leave this dog outside in this condition.
Ok so the Vet will help even if you do not have the money. Call them tell them the situation and he will understand, he or she will work with you if your low on cash. I know because I went through something with my dog. Please call your vet and tell them whats going on, I don’t suggest for you to procrastinate. Vets are just like human doctors if we are ill they have to see us same goes with animals it is against their oath to just walk away.
I checked the internet. My female dog 15years old was on deaths door this past Sunday morning. We just figured old age and she is ready to die. We have had her for 15 years and she is our baby. We both cried until there were no more tears. Then I got on the internet and asked google what were the symtoms of a heart attack or stroke. A stroke was the answer. Head tilted to one side, the side the head tilts to the right side especially right rear leg was almost useless. When she went outside she just walked in circles. I had to guide her in. Financially we were tapped out untl payday (5days away). Tuesday morning I was at work and called a nearby vet. Could they put her to sleep and I pay them Friday. I made the appointment. When I got Home from work at about 2pm She was glad to see me as usual. But we noticed an improvement. Actually a dramatic improvement. The problem was still there but she did get um and bark and was glad to see me. I just said to myself this is something strange and I am going to find out what it is and hopefully how to get her better. The internet said she may need to learn all over again how to chew and swallow. Prctice. Well, what do we feed her. She had not eaten for 4 days. Drank a little water. Back to the internet. Mix 2 tablespoons of honey in warm water to mix thoroughly. Add an egg Yoke. Remember yoke only. Mix all togther. Did not tell me how to get this stuff in her. Well, after a little thought A light went off. I took my wife’s turkey baister (you know that long plastic think with the rubber bubble thing on the top that sucks out the juices while cooking a turkey). I dipped this thing in the mixture and tilted her head up (Straight a the ceiling) and slowly squeezed the liquid mixture in the back of her mouth. She actually got about 95% of this 12 ounce glass mixture don. It is spuupsed to be a very good energy concoxtion. Lets hope so. Hope this has helped. let me know. hk8352565@gmail.com.
