I have a ten year old pug who started having problems with arthritis about four years ago. He was so bad that we would have to pick him up and carry him home in the middle of his walk or at least lift him over the six inch threshhold of our front door. We bought a pet bed for every room of the house because he couldn’t jump up on the furnniture anymore. He would wake up in the middle of the night and wimper while he tried to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Our vet basically wrote him off and gave us a prescription for rimadyl. The receptionist was ringing us up and said in a low voice “you really should do some research before you give him this”; turns out it’s really nasty stuff and we never did give it to him. She recommended Cosequin to us at that time. It took a couple of weeks, but a miracle happened. You would never know that he ever had any problems. He was jumping up and down and running through the house like he did when he was a much younger dog. The only problem was that it was a little pricey. We switched him to Synflex for awhile-another great product, but a little messy since it’s a sweet, sticky liquid. A couple of years ago we finally settled on Halo and we couldn’t be happier. I stir 1/2 teaspoon into his morning food and a jar lasts a long time. Small investment with a huge payoff!

I had my aging cat on this for years. She had arthritis in her legs and I KNOW it worked because once, I ran out and she stiffened up immediately. As soon as I put her back on the product she was fine. They say this product is for dogs only but it is fine for cats too, they only had to make this labeling distinction recently, I don’t remember why. Make sure you dont’ give them a dog-size dosage though! just a little sprinkle a day.
