dog won’t go outside?
So we had an ice storm last night and my dog is old and has arthritis. He doesn’t like to go down steps because he thinks he’ll fall. He knows the deck is slippery and I can’t get him to go down the inside steps to go out the front door. I’ve tried food, ringing the doorbell etc. He hasn’t gone to the bathroom since 7p.m. last night and it is now 10 a.m. Will he be alright if he waits until the ice melts?
He weighs close to 100 pounds.
he’s on medication for his arthritis, I think he’s just scared. I’m going to try putting a few long rugs on the porch so he can walk on it without slipping.
Try getting him some puppy pads so he won’t have to go outside (you could put them in the garage if you don’t want him using them in the house).
Arthritis is whats wrong…It hurts to walk down the stairs…All dogs need to pee/poop 2-3 times a day….Call your vet and ask for suggestions…Do NOT take your dog out on ANY slippery deck EVER…. Good luck
carry him down the steps….
Go to Petsmart and get some pet safe icemelt… sprinkle that on the deck leave the door open and you stand out there, he should get the gist. If not I’d put a puppy pad by the door. He shouldn’t hold it that long.. and just because he is not going outside still give him food and water.
hello,
you need to do something because all dogs must go to the washroom at least three times a day.
you can try and put dwon some cat litter on the ice this helps with the slipperyness and it does hurt the does paws as salt does. or but something that can be put in the house for the dog to go to the washroom on. as well i know the canine has arthritis but what about taking the dog out front of the house, if you are entering in the front of the house then it can’t be that slippery…well i hope not anyways.lol
hope this helps.
