Do you have to get your blood tested for arthritis?
I basically have a fear and pass out whenever I encounter needles…..
I need to go to the doctor to get my hand checked out and see if I do have arthritis.
If they do need to take my blood, where would they take it from? Upper arm like a regular flu shot?
never look. look the other way.

1] some blood work is likely to be required, to eliminate any other causes of joint pain, tenderness, and stiffness
2] blood is usually drawn from a vein in the inside elbow [ or sometimes, from top of hand ]
3] be sure you sit or lie down for any blood tests, so you are
a] less likely to pass out
b] less likely to hurt yourself if you do pass out
4] do not look at the needle, or watch while they insert the needle [ if you tense up, it will hurt more ]
Yes, but it’s really not that bad.
They will take the blood from inside your elbow.
Tell the receptionist that you really do not like needles and you need someone who’s very good to do it.
When the nurse comes, tell her very clearly that you do not like blood tests. Most nurses are really lovely and they’ll do everything to reassure you.
Ask for a ‘butterfly needle’. It’s what they use for children. Basically it’s a smaller needle so it hurts less (and it’s good for people with difficult veins)
Ask if you can lie down. You’ll be less likely to faint.
Take your ipod and put it in your ears so you can distract yourself.
Don’t look at the needle.
And it’s all over before you know it!
I use to be scared of needles too, but after having my appendix out and the nurse took 8 goes to get a vein, I’m pretty apathetic now.
Good luck =]
