Could I already have some sort of arthritis in my wrists at 17?
My wrists are constantly active because I’m a painter, tennis player, and gymnast and I play the guitar and piano, but still, I’m only 17. Could the sharp pains in my wrists be some form of arthritis already?
certain people probably like you who are super active sometimes tend to get atheritis. but i would get a docters opinion before freaking out case gymnastics has always been hard on my wrists
Sounds like carpel tunnel, which makes sense since you paint. Go to your doc or physio for help. Till then wear a wrist guard which you can get at any drug store.
Good luck!
Arthritis is rare at your age but possible. However, from what you say it sounds like it’s more likely to be a type of repetitive strain injury. See your doctor, they may refer you to a physiotherapist and you may need to wear wrist supports for a while. If arthritis runs in your family then it may be worth getting checked for it but I’m pretty sure this is most likely a strain injury, it happens over time but it can be treated. Good luck!
Well maybe, I knew a girl in college that had rheumatoid arthritis and she was not much older than you. It was really nasty especially since she was a textile arts major and used her hands all the time.
BUT…this is UNLIKELY so don’t panic. You need to see a medical professional on this. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease and does not come from using your wrists a lot. You are thinking about osteoarthritis which people sometimes get as they age and their joints “wear out”.
Maybe you are having some other type of problem in your wrists which might require treatment like some medication or therapy like a repetitive motion injury (every hear of carpal tunnel syndrome in people who type on the computer all day?) Again just see the doctor and have it checked out it is very unlikely to be anything serious.
