Psoriatic Arthritis Archives

im 17 years old and i had strep throat which gave me skin psoriasis (the doctor diagnosed this) and i looked it up and i think it might be guttate psoriasis. i have the spots on my arms, legs, stomach, hands and feet. theyre not too bad and im using hydrocortisone creme but i read this online “Psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints, which is known as psoriatic arthritis. Ten to up to 40 percent of people with psoriasis have psoriatic arthritis.”
but is that the only thing? and is there no way to know for sure what it could potentially turn into?

I have had alot of health problems in my life heart problem psorisis psoriatic arthritis and it’s all on going now I lay here at night scared something else is going to hit me and I’m truly scared I might get cancer I’m 24 and don’t want to think like this what should I do?

I have psoriatic arthritis and scleraderma and both are flaring . Darvocet helps mild back pain but I was put on both Tramadol and Ultram to be alternated every 4 hours and the pain in my hands and sacrum are still bad enough to bother me a lot. Any recommendations for better pain relief medication and what options to ask my pain management doctor about.
sorry for the typo ,I meant to say I was put on Ultram/Tramadol and Darvocet at alternating times.

Let me start off by saying that I am 18 years old and I had pain and swelling on a few of my fingers and toes back in December. Went to the ER and was diagnosed with MRSA. After 8 days on Bactrim with no improvement, my general doctor said she had no clue and called an infectious disease who turned us to a dermatologist. We watched it for 3 weeks and after a few cycles of swelling and waning, we went to a rheumatologist. My history of psoriasis lead her to think it was Psoriatic Arthritis but we can’t get any solid clues to hint such as blood tests or damaged joints.

We tried Medrol and I had an allergic reaction so I have been switched on 10mg prednisone for a month to date which took the pain away, but not a lot of the swelling. In addition I have had a dry cough for about 4 weeks now and I am not due back to the doctor until April. What should I do?

I can’t close my hands into fists anymore. It feels like I have tough, painful, rubber bands that are keeping my fingers from closing. I feel this on the “insides” of my fingers and hands. It hurts like hell when I try to clench my hands. I have been told I have psoriatic(?) arthritis, but does it feel like this? It’s not so much in the joints or knuckles as it is in the insides of my hands.
Psoriatic inflames the tendons, so that is why I was asking about the particular pain and the location. I just don’t know what is “normal” because my mom has the osteoarthritis, which is in the joints.

I take 3 200mg Ibuprofen and 2 650mg Tylenol Arthritis pills at the same time 3 times a day with little to no relief. I am 26 and have lost most of my quality of life. I have to wear house shoes to just be able to walk. The area’s that are affected are both shoulders, elbows, wrists, thumbs, pinky joint, right knee, both hips, both heels and all toes, and the upper part of my spine.
I have psoriatic arthritis caused by my psoriasis. I used to take methotrexate which did wonders. I have lost my job and I can no longer go to Rhuem to get my prescriptions. Without these prescriptions I cannot perform many simple tasks like opening jars of food or even squeezing lotion out of a bottle.
If you have any suggestions I am in desperate need of something to take some pain away.
With hope,
Krystal
I cannot go to the doctor….I have no insurance and live on unemployment.

Can osteo or psoriatic arthritis prevent you from being able to close your hand into a fist? Or from stretching the fingers out? If so, why is that? Are the tendons affected? One of my hands is almost frozen with the fingers partially closed, and I can’t close it completely or open it. The family doctor just tossed out the diagnosis of “some sort of arthritis” and wouldn’t even refer me to a rheumotologist. It’s terribly painful, the fingers are puffed. The other hand is also affected, but to a much lesser extent.

Also, is it wrong of me to ask for a confirmation of this diagnosis, like an x-ray?

Both my knees are swelled up b/c of psoriatic arthritis. Which means I can only walk for like an hour. I can keep walking, but the pain increases, with stiffness and swelling – but i NEED this job. Am I going to destroy my knee joints by working at this place?
