Im 38, female. In the last 2 years I have gained unexplained weight, have mood swings, irregular periods that were normal, like clock work before. I feel fatiged and tired most the time. I have tendonitis, feel sleepy and forgetfull, even if i get a good nights sleep. And also have loose stools most the time. my gynacoligist said he thought I was going through premenapause, I have a thyroid test done about 5 years ago but the doctor said it was normal, but a friend said if they dont do the right one, sometimes it wont show up. I also have alot of aches and pains like arthritis. im thinking of going back to the doctor for a physical and asking for a thyroid test. I have hardly any energy and even have tried taking vitamins for this. I also cant seem to loose weight on diets. I feel like i get hot flashes right before my period, and have many mood swings. I also feel weak most the time. I have never had anything wrong with me besides a cold or sinus headache.
Arthritis Diet Archives
My cat is a 12 year old female english short-hair/siamese mix. I have had her since kindergarten and she is my whole life (i know, sad) She was recently diagnosed with Feline OCD (she obsessively bit her tail until it bled) and she was also diagnosed with acute arthritis. She is an indoor cat. She has had a beautiful gray shiny coat her entire life, it also never shed. I have noticed recently that she has gotten dandruff and her coat is a bit drab. There have been no changes in diet. What do you think the cause is?
Obviously I am happy to see the scale go down, I just want to be sure I do this right. I am 25, 5′2 and weighed 195 pounds 7 days ago (now 185 pounds) I gained about 50 pounds in a years time, I just wasn’t paying attention to what I was or WASN’T eating and was living pretty sedentary but now it is affecting my spinal arthritis so Dr. advised less carbs and sugar and more calories.
My daily eating habits
WERE
under 1,000 calories a day (always felt lethargic and not wanting to eat)
300-400 carbs a day
under 50g’s of protein
4-6 cups of fluid
NOW
1000-1500 calories (now have more energy and a want to eat)
150 or less carbs
50-90g’s protein
50-100g’s of fat
40g’s or less sugar (no added)
6-8 cups of tap water or green tea (nothing added)
So within 7 days of changing from what I was doing to what I am now doing, I have lost 10 pounds. Does it sound like I am going about this the right way? I exercise also but nothing stressful or strenuous so it’s hard to get a good cardio workout but I do pilates and lift weights.
Does anyone have any advice? Should I keep doing what I’m doing? I was thinking of doing a modified atkins type diet since the low carb thing seems to be working? What do you guys thing? Advice and opinions PPPLLLLEEEAAAASSSSSE
Also, the weight I’m losing, is it just water weight for some reason? Because I don’t notice anywhere on my body where 10 pounds has melted off, it’s a lot, you’d think it would be more noticeable or that I could at least fit into my jeans lol.
Little background:
I met my girlfriend when I was 19. I was obese, unhealthy, and generally unhappy. My girlfriend was athletic, and had a few health problems.
I turned to a mostly vegetarian diet when I was 21 and started regular workouts. I am now 195lbs(from 285) muscular, happy, healthy, and fit. I spent months researching health and how nutrients interact and work to create a more healthy body.
My girlfriend is not as enthused. She is not overweight, but she is already showing signs of arthritis, asthma, and osteoporosis. She has a family history of cancer and early death. I would like to spend the rest of my life with her and I want her to be there with me.
She is very stubborn and a very picky eater. She refuses to even try anything if it’s “green” No salads, broccoli, etc. I tried to explain to her about the health benefits of these foods and her stance is “I would rather die young eating what tastes good than living an extra 20 years eating what I can’t stand.”
It actually greatly upsets me. I offered cooking it differently, preparing it special, etc. No avail
I know she eats her own poop sometimes (gross!), but not too often– but I’ve never known her to eat dirt before. My Dad has been complaining that she’s been digging up dirt in our backyard, something she does pretty regularly, and so I was watching her through the windows to see if she was going to do it–so I could stop her. I saw her eating something in the grass, and I thought that she must be eating poop….gross. But then she was pawing at the ground, and eating more, and pawing again. I went outside after a couple of minutes to see what it was she had been doing, and she had torn up all of the grass in that area and exposed the dirt. I checked out her mouth and there was dirt on her nose and on her tongue and teeth. I grabbed a paper towel and dabbed some of it off of her whiskers and it smells like dog breath, not like anything too nasty, so I really do think it was dirt.
She’s a black spitz/spaniel mix, and 15 years old this July. She has arthritis problems and is taking glucosamine and another drug, but she’s been taking them for over almost two years so I can’t see them being the problem.
Could her eating this dirt be a problem? I know that sometimes dogs eat dirt and strange things because they need certain minerals or vitamins, but her diet hasn’t changed at all (same dog food and same meds), and there seems to be a fair bit of dirt missing from that area of the backyard over the past couple of weeks.
BTW: The snow just melted a couple of weeks ago. Connection?
Hey everybody, my dog is pretty much obese, and I have tried everything! She is currently on diet food, i have reduced her food consumtion, and I walk her for 1 hour and a half everyday! She’s a black lab and I read that obesity is common in labs, also she’s fixed so that might be a reason. Please help! is there anything else I can do? Im afraid she’s going to get diabetes or arthritis or something! Please help!
Im only 14 and I have been begging my mother to take her to the vet, but she keeps putting it aside like its not important. Also ive been saving up my money I earn so that I can get her lisenced so I can take her to the dog park to run around.
I have also stopped giving her treats. Although on the odd ocasion i will give her a small cube of cheese or a grape tomato. I was told that those things were okay for her.
I think my mother may be the one feeding my dog table scraps. (she doesn’t really care for Dakota that much, and she wont listen to me….)
My grandfather noticed this supplement, Instaflex Joint Support, and asked me to purchase it for my Grandmother, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and often has intense joint pain in her shoulder, hands, as well as other joints. She started taking this all natural supplement and was noticing fantastic results! She normally has to take arthritic tylenol daily, but after a couple weeks of taking this supplement she was taking NONE!! It was working great for her and we really like the idea that it was all natural! ![]()
But recently she quit taking it as it started to cause her to have indigestion, to a point where it was bothersome.
My Question is, Is there anything she can do to ease the indigestion from this so she can continue to take it? I believe she was eating a little something prior to taking them, as she does this with her regular prescription meds, anything you can suggest would be much appreciated as she would love to continue to take this and reap the benefits, but would like to overcome the side effect of the indigestion…I’ve included the supplement information below to see if perhaps one of the ingredients is perhaps the culprit?
Thanx much!

I have 5 kinds of crippling Arthritis, can barely walk and use a wheelchair, cannot exercise. My steroid drugs and other medications and the inability to burn calories or move my body has made losing weight impossible. On an average day I eat less than 550 calories. I eat the same thing almost every day. A handful of Jelly Bellys with coffee for breakfast, more coffee for lunch and a protien bar for dinner. 1/2 cup of low fat, frozen yogurt is my last meal of the day. I take loads of vitamins. I do nibble Jelly Bellys (four calories each, no fat) during late aft and do not count how many I eat. given my diet, I need to stop them but every time I have tried, I couldn’t do it! I take lots of pain meds, never get high or take more than prescribed and am a very disciplined person but need some help on how to quit these Jelly Beans! When I try to eat small, healthy meals I gain more weight! My theory is that I am using sugar for energy and storing the rest. Can anyone tell me how to detox?
Perhaps I was unclear. I obviously know not to buy them but I crave them and want to know how to stop the craving, how long it might last, how many days it takes to lose the craving, that sort of thing. I am unable to shop and my family is not supportive about it because in their well meaning love they feel I should not give up my only fun pleasure (food wise) because of my pain and suffering. More about breaking the addiction please? Thank you.
One more thing…I don’t eat cookies, cakes, sugary treats, chocolate, none of those things! Just those damn Jelly Beans. Sometimes I think they must have Estrogen in them since I am in Menopause and so many of my friends love them too! lol

My baby is going to be 9 years in September. A few days ago he started limping for no reason. I took him to the vet and today they told me he may have a little arthritis. I’m trying to keep him FAR away from any type of vet meds. Are there other alternaives that can be used to help cope with the pain? What are some really good joint supplements that I can give him? He already gets fish oil. What else can I give him?
BTW: before you say it he’s already on a grain free diet. I feed both of my dogs EVO wet/dry. They get veggies in all of their meals. And he’s an 8 going on 9 year old American Pit Bull Terrier.
To the first answerer: if you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about please don’t make assumptions. I’m not neglecting anything…. it should be apparent since he’s been to the vet for the issue. He can’t use Rimadyle because of an adverse reaction he had to it on another occasion. I hate it when people who kno absolutely nothing about you make these assumptions. If you knew how much money I’ve spent on this dog over the past 8 going on 9 years then you’d know how much I truely care about my animals… I treat them better than I treat myself….. if you’re going to make an assumption like the first jerk off did please keep your answer to yourself. Id much rather read someone elses intelligent response to my question.
