Hubby was diagnosed with sarcoid and rheumatoid arthritis 2 years ago. He’s since left the chemical plant he worked at, but his weight is out of control. He’s 5′8 and weighs 275 pounds. His doctor explained he’s at risk for cancer, heart disease, etc. Hubby told the doctor “I really want to lose the weight but don’t like feeling hungry,” to which the horrible doc replied “you’re just fat; have some self control.”
It took alot of convincing just to get hubby to see a doctor, and the idiotic remark has only left him extremely discouraged. We’ve talked at length about ideas and have tried MANY diets, and I don’t want to nag but I’m out of ideas how to help! I know in the end only he can choose to help himself, but does anyone have ideas how I can help him or how he can help himself? I love him and want him with me for a long time (which I’ve told him, of course!) Thanks!
Arthritis Diet Archives
I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I got up to some fairly high doses of 3 different meds, 2 twice a day and one once a day. About a year ago I started feeling tired all the time and it got to the point where I was sleeping about 12 hours a day. I was too tired to run my business and almost lost everything because I couldn’t work. I went to the doctor who ran blood tests and told me my sugar was fine and she couldn’t find anything wrong with me. Eventually it got to the point where I couldn’t afford my meds so I just quit taking them. No choice, really.
Well, three weeks after I quit my meds I had lost 22 lbs without dieting and my energy returned. My business is back to normal, I feel great, and I’ve lost another 13 lbs. Even my arthritis is better, I suppose because at my new reduced weight it’s not such a strain on my hips and knees.
In my situation, would you go back to the doctor and try to get back on meds? I’m afraid to test my sugar.
I’m just fed up with being overweight, Ive tried diets. And ive also tried starving myself. Im 13 years old, But I’m Just about 200lbs over weight ( I know its disgusting) I have also tried like exercising but I have arthritis in my knees (One of the many reasons why i need to lose weight) witch makes exercising difficult…Do you think I would be able to get it my stomach stapled? I know about it and the downsides, But i really need to lose weight
I have talked to my mom about it, ( My dad is dead to me
) She said we have to talk about with my family doctor, but hes a complete dick. And he just calls me lazy n crap. But i am not, i would go for long walks/jogs if i could! He told me to run for an hour a day, i went to a specialist n he said that is making the arthritis worse! i dont like my fam, doctor at all.. But i dont want to use pills n stuff because they cost money that i dont have.
Hey everyone, I’ll start with a little backstory. I’ve been “fat” for about the last 13 years, before that I was in great shape due to playing soccer year around. Unfortunately I found at an early age I have arthritis and it really started hurting to run so sports were out.
Since then I have gained about 10-15 lbs a year. I have tried dieting somewhat in the past but it always ended up with me doing a full day of binging within 3 days and giving up.
My fiance’ and I decided to start dieting on memorial day (5/26) and it’s been so hard for me. I’ve gone from eating in excess of 3000 calories a day to about 1500-2000. I’ 6′2″ and I wieghed a tad over 315 when we started. I’m now around 302 but I keep cheating daily now, and cant get under the 300lb mark. We just got back from cheating at IHOP and I know I doubled my calories for the day and easily had 40-50 grams of fat.
The worst part about this is Im hungry all the time, and I yell at everyone. I need some advice.

im 16. 5′7, female weight approx 140 pounds.
most of it is muscle, since im a dancer.
i know im fine the way I am.. but i would feel a little more comfortable in my own skin if i was a bit thinner.

i refuse to starve myself.
i cant run or do any really physical excercises because I have arthritis in my knees (yes, at 16)

I am 22 yrs old and I weigh 257 lbs. I can’t stand on my feet for more than an hour and it hurts to lay on my stomach or back. I also have arthritis in my legs that the weight is not helping. I tried dieting but there isn’t much food where I am staying. I gave up pork, most fried foods and I exercise as much as I can . I think a GB would help me get a good start on the weightloss. So I am researching if medicaid will pay for it.

My mother who is 71 is over 300 lbs and dieting just will not work, she has arthritis and it is very hard for her to move around. I would like to get any opinions of the LEAST invasive technique she can undergo, so she get drop some weight and be mobile. It is a concern to me because of the nature of moving her during emergencies. Please provide serious answers only. I am looking it up and I will ask the doctor, but I would like to get personal opinions as well.
Thank you in advance.
I mentioned dieting does not work and someone who is not ambulatory can not do a great deal of exercise. That was not the question I asked. Lipo is not an option, the doctors already said no to that.
