Does anyone know if medical assistance (state assistance) will pay for gastric bypass surgery. I have been overwieght all my life and have tried MANY diets, stuck to them religiously, and still can’t loose weight. I do not have diabetes, or a thyroid problem or high blood pressure. I’m quite healthy, except being over 150 pounds over wieght. (also, my BMI is 43) I have arthritis in my ankle, and a bad knee. I was also told from many surgeons that if I loose all this weight all my problems will go away (cannot have surgery on knee becuase it would be a 5% chance of success, also cannot deliver vaginally if i have another child, and have endometriosis becuase of this weight gain) So i was wondering, I know I can get letters of refferals to have this surgery done (at least 6 letters) will medical assistance pay for it?
(I know there are some real douche bags out there that will be harse when answering this question, so please don’t bother to answer if you will be an a**.. It hurts and this is a very serious question.)
THank you

My mom is 53 years old and has both scoliosis and arthritis in her back. Her pain is mostly lower and she is opposed to pain medication because she doesn’t want to get addicted and it just isn’t good for you. I’ve found a lot of information on back pain, but nothing specific to what she has. She has a very physical job, so she does get exercise. She’s in good shape-5′10 and 120 pounds. With HUGE man-like muscles lol. We actually share clothes because I’m only 2 inches taller and we both wear a 1 lol. Are there specific things she should be eating? We eat kind of junky fatty diets, to be honest, but I’m the one who cooks so if I make it, she’ll eat it. Thanks for the help-I’m only 18 and I don’t really know much about orthopedics. Oh and surgery isn’t an option. She has to be able to work.
Ive been having pain in my left ankle and its swelled. for 2 days.
This has happened before. But this is much worse.

This could be inflammation? from R.A?????
Yes I was diagnosed by A doctor 1 year ago.
i’m 62 years old & 235 lbs. i’ve been carring around 100 extra pounds for 20 years & am tired of it. i’ve tried lots of diets but to no avail. i’m healthy, lo blood pressure & no heart prblms. i’m pre-diabetic & hope that dosn’t matter. i had a knee replacement last november & need the other one done. it’s a horrible operation & am hoping if i get a bypas i won’t need another knee. i also have arthritis in my feet and ankles that i hope less weight will help too.
What kind of world is this where people call people fat?
okay, well i am 12and or 13, im 5′2, and im 170 lbs. i am working on my weight, but it is hard to work on my weight while still being called fat. some people didn’t even notice the 18 pounds i lost in 6th grade, so i gained them back in 7th grade. i am just saying… i don’t get why people call people fat
I really am not saying that a 400+ person is skinny, but can’t people just tell them nicely to lose weight? not to make them feel better, but to live longer. Some people who are 30+ years of age have a hard time losing weight too.Their matabolism isn’t as fast as they were as a kid. or maybe, obesity ran in your family and you were also called this so called ”fat”
Anyway, there are also some people saying that these ”fat” people are just sob stories and that fat people can’t go on diets because they don’t have controll over junk food.I personally don’t think that is true. It is verry sterotypical. There is a good possibility that that happens, but sometimes, people are fat from diseases or because of a troubled past.
For me, the reason why i am overweight is because of the people at my school. in 3rd grade, people were still 30-40 pounds. i was about 50, so they would call me this so- called fat. They would call me fat over and over again, till what i am today. which is a 5′2, 12and or 13 year old, who is 170 pounds.(and for your info, i am eating healthier, working out more, ect… to make myself healthy ( not just thin) but healthy.
And some people who are skinny, possibly eat junk food and get away with it. they problably have fast matabolisms. You never really know.Someone who is really skinny can eat what a 300 pound person would eat. I know this because the kids at my school who are skinny eat bigmacs, pizza, candies, ect…
And people who are saying that we pay for fat people is what i don’t get. i am not at an age where i understand this type of stuff, so i will not say anything about that.
But anyways, anyone know why people call these people hurtful names? i do not really get it.And any of you who are reading this, i don’t want you to feel sorry for me because i am fat.I dont want to be a sob story.I just want to make my point on why are these people so made fun of.More fat people are made fun of instead of skinny people. but some skinny people look really bad and really unattractive. So if someone says that obease people look gross, go look up amorexic/bulemic people and see how THAT is gross.
Anyway, like i said, why are these people made fun of so much?
p.s. i have juvinile arthritis(rheumatoid) so i have limited motion in my joints.
I recently took my 7-year old female English mastiff to the vet for some blood work, because she wasn’t eating well–otherwise she appears to be healthy and looks great for her age. Urine tests were normal. The blood test, however showed that her platelet count was low. It was 87, and the normal lab values are 170-400. She’s not on any medication other than Advantage Multi Heartworm medication, occasional aspirin or Derramax for arthritis, neither of which she has had for several weeks, and estrogen for incontinence (she’s spayed).
Interestingly, I also have a 10-year old, diabetic Doberman, and routine blood tests showed that his platelet count was also low. His was 79.
What can be causing this? Neither dog has been exposed to ticks or other toxins. Both are on quality low carb/low fat/high protein diets–the Doberman has to be in order to keep his blood sugar under control. Both get multi-vitamins each day.
My mom is 52 years old, she’s 5′4” and approximately 165 lbs. She was diagnosed with gestational diabetes after she had me, and 11 years later she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and high blood pressure. I feel bad because she can’t exercise much because her feet are always sore or swollen or inflamed with pain…I know that if she can just loose about 10 pounds she will feel much healthier and feel/look better but I don’t know how to persuade her.
My father is always putting her down, there are sometimes when she skips meals but I know that’s not healthy, but when she does finally have a meal its something high in bad fats and its always a big plate.
Help! I don’t know what to do or say I don’t want to send her on any crash diets, or have her eating foods shes not comfortable with or anything that will bring her down…

So im 15, Male , and about 5″6, 140. I need and exercises program that will help me lose about 10-15 pounds and build muscle. I go to school and usually eat dinner at about 6:00. So, if you could come up with a great exercise program that would be great! Keep in mind i don’t have any machines and i have arthritis in my wrists(lol, that’s what i get for cracking them all the time), and i cant go for runs!
Thank You, p.s, i cant do diets, my mom isnt willing to cook healthy food haha!
Oh also, haha i dont really have fat all over me, its mainly my stomach area, and legs! thanx! i wanna at least feel comfetable taking my shirt of at the beach! THanx!
All of my life my legs have been the strongest part of me. I have walked many many miles all my life even to my mid 40’s. At that time I had gained some extra pounds and started dieting. I lost about 60 pounds. Actually I lost more weigh than I should have. I was strong at that time and used to go mountain climbing and also roller bladed.
I stopped my different physical activities for a few months and found I didn’t even have the strength to peddle a bicycle. After a while I noticed that when walking after a short distance my legs began to hurt unbearable. My left hip felt as if it would break. Also on inclines and uneven surfaces my legs would hurt really bad. The odd thing is sometimes my legs would just stop hurting and walking short distances were ok and then the next walk I would hurt really bad again. I have pushed myself walking everyday hoping this would go away and the exercise doesn’t seem to help. Im only 54 and my leg muscles are very strong but still I cannot walk very far without miserable pain. My mom had arthritis , is it possible I have the same thing or is this something that might be worse? I have experienced these same symptoms for at least 10 years and exercise doesn’t seem to help . Thanks for your help in advance
