Arthritis treated with shot in Hanoverian a problem?
So, I have found a 13 year old Hanoverian that I’m considering, with Pre Saint George level dressage training that looks very promising. The only problem that I might see is the fact that the owner claims he has slight arthritis, but is treated once a year with a shot that keeps him sound. Is this going to be much of a problem over the years?
arthritis will evolve differently on every horse, depend the area you live in (humid or not), supplement you give him, medical history in the horse family, etc …
Every horse is subject to develop arthritis. You might find another horse without arthritis and he might get it in a year or so. I would say slight arthritis shouldn’t hold you back to get that horse if you keep an eye on it and keep on with the treatment, you might just have to evolve with his medication within years!
Good luck
My horse is nine and has her hocks injected once a year and is on Adequan monthly. Her arthritis only bugs her when she’s not excersized, but it really depends on the individual horse.
You didn’t really say what type of injection it was, where his arthritis is or any other crucial information.
Personally, I would pass that horse up.
