Metacam is good for arthritic dogs with bones pain. It is a bit pricy, but you can use it long term with little side effects. I give it to my dog who has calcified disks.
You get it from your vet.
a baby aspirin helped mine.
Any prescription strength medications that will help out the best will need to be prescribed by your vet. There are probably meds you can get from the pet store, but I would be concerned about their efficiency.
i would definitely get from a vet
***at least your vet can give you a prescription,, then you may order it online cheaper,,,www.1800petmeds or some place like that
You really need to take your dog to the vet to be x-rayed to determine the severity. The vet can then tell you if your dog needs prescription meds to keep him pain free, or if you can use glucosamine chondroitin with MSM and what dosage your dog needs.
Our vet starts with baby aspirins and glucosamine. He also likes to use DMSO externally. Rimadyl is next and finally metacam and prednisone. You can call your vet and ask about a dosage for baby aspirins.
At this age, I wouldn’t go through the expense of x-rays or surgery. Suit yourself, but it’s not going to be a long term issue. I would just use aspirin and possibly steroids if the pain is severe.
