I had another open question but people obviously got the wrong idea.

My chihuahua is twelve now, and he’s nearing the end of his lifetime. He used to have multiple problems like his bones have been progressively getting worse. He has arthritis (we have to give him the “elevator treatment” if he wants up on a couch, we sometimes have to lift him even to get in the doorway, and we were forced to change our steps outside to a ramp for him.)
Almost all of his teeth are in bad shape, either rotting or dulled down. Just last month my dad had to gently tug out one of his loose teeth which was rotten. He’s gotten infections that swelled the upper part of his head/eye, in the sinus region, which obviously hurt. (He hasn’t had one since that tooth was removed, so that problem is fixed for now.) Since that 1 bad tooth was removed he hasn’t been whining or seeming at all in pain about his teeth anymore. Although he doesn’t like to eat hard dogfood anymore, and lately he’s been so stingy about his eating that now we even have to put soft dog food chucks on a toothpick and hand feed him. He only eats about half a cup of food a day, but I suppose thats all he needs because he’s eaten that way for about a month now.

About 2 weeks ago, his right eye started closing a little bit when he’d just be sitting there. We didn’t think much of it. Just yesterday his right eye was completely closed — now he’s back to normal, he just looks a little sleepy. He doesn’t seem to have anything in his eye. When we touch it or rub his face, he seems to enjoy it, so it isn’t anything painful. I made a video of him of him and my other dog, if you wanted to see his eye better. It shows a shot of his mouth and his eye up close.

We’ve had him all of his life, so it’s hard for us to even think about putting him down anytime soon. He’s not in any obvious pain now so there’s no definite need. He is an old dog, so we’re not sure how far to push him to live on. He’s happy right now, though, he still is alert and has love in his eyes. He doesn’t seem to be stressed/sad/sick at all, despite his previous problems.

We cannot take him to one of those expensive vets – I’m fifteen, my parents are going through a custody battle and my dad can barely afford the bare minimum. We are not willing to give him up, and he’s not in an extreme condition enough to put him down. I am wondering how farther do you think he would live?

ALSO, people on my previous question were saying things like “oh my god if I were your neighbor I would report you for animal abuse and get him put down ASAP!” and crap like that. Yahoo! answers is not a place to be rude or the meanest you possibly can. its to help others find answers.

Does this seem like animal abuse? I’ve seen those animal cop shows on television and they aren’t anything like our situation. He’s no longer in pain from his tooth and only has arthritis, but multiple people said the words “abuse” because we couldn’t bring him ASAP to a vet. >_<;

I’m going to have to have this taken soon. Any one been through this already? I want to find comfort in it. D:

I know I’m going to receive a lot of negative comments from this question, but I do feel I have a legitimate reason for wanting to maintain fitness during pregnancy. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and right before I was pregnant I was going through a HUGE flare up. I’m 28 years old, and I went from training for a half marathon to walking with a cane. The muscles in my calves completely atrophied, because I couldn’t bend my knees for more than 3 months.

Thank heavens—now that I’m pregnant, I am mostly in remission. Unfortunately, from not doing anything but sitting for 3 months I put on 25 pounds… and THEN got pregnant. No, I do NOT want to diet— I just want to make up for a little lost ground and not get too heavy during pregnancy (last pregnancy I put on 70 pounds!).

Aside from light swimming (which I am doing) does anyone have any workout routines or suggestions that don’t involve using my knees? I can’t do anything like walking, running, lunges, squats, etc— I essentially have the knees of a 99 year old woman. Detailed suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

My elderly Rottweiler has something wrong with her ear. I can tell it’s really painful because when I touched it, she bared her teeth at me, something she’s never done before. I can’t get into the vet until Tuesday. Is there anything I can do for her until then, or should I just leave her alone?

Also, she is on Tramadol (morphine) for her arthritis, will that help with the pain in her ear?

My doctor says no, with a puzzled look on his face…but really, autoimmune problems such as asthma and rheumatoid arthritis would be related…as would lupus and asthma, etc…autoimmune malfunctions…

About 2-3 months ago, I got sick for a few days with cold symptoms, then I started to develop limited joint movement in my neck, knee and right shoulder. (Most prevalent in the neck area, then knee, then shoulder). My right knee is clearly swollen with a build up of synovial fluid.

Symptoms:
-Cold symptoms (fever, nausea, headache) ~2-3 months ago
-Swollen / Inflamed joint(s): Right knee, neck, shoulder, right middle finger; left elbow (onset)
-Recent dandruff? (I have some scalp flaking for some reason…never had this before… using Selsin blue)

Doctor visits:
1st: The initial persistent neck-stiffness symptoms were ignored.
2nd: During the second visit, Naproxen was given for the observable joint inflammation.

The doctor has not made a clear diagnosis yet and had just prescribed Naproxen (he spends an avg. of 5-6 minutes with me…)

Current prescriptions: Naproxen (for reduced inflammation), Tetracycline (for acne)

I am a 195 lb 5′10 male with medium-athletic build. Currently prescribed 2x 500mg of Tetracycline a day. Do you think it is a good idea to up my dosage to 3x, perhaps to fight off the spreading infection (on top of the fact that I’m heavier than the typical adult)

I don’t know a better place to ask questions, perhaps you guys can give me more advice other than “go see a doctor” or perhaps the next time I meet him (in about 3-4 weeks) what should I tell him?

Also, I really want to work out (run/lift) which I cannot when in pain, but with Naproxen, it reduces the pain enough so that I can run and lift, however, I’m worried I may be facilitating joint erosion by doing so. Should I be okay to work out?

Thanks!

Thanks, but I am properly following the instructions. I do not take it within 3 hours of eating anything and at least 1 hour before I eat anything.

I guess I will stick with the prescribed 2 pills a day, I’m just curious whether or not my body size is big enough that it may need more.

I have already lost 55 pounds without exercise. But I need some exercise that doesn’t put me in pain for a week before I can exercise again. My back hurts when I run on me tread mill and my knees hurt severly after exercises.

We have noticed recenlty that our cat [who just turned 4] is having a hard time jumping up to his water dish.We have it on the kitchen counter, I did move it to the floor. He seems to be eating ok.We did also notice a few months ago that if you stare at his eyes, they shake a little bit?

I play field hockey year round and this year my arthritis came back into all of my major joints. My trainer wraps my joints all the time and it helps while i am playing. After i play i need stretches that can help me relax my legs, knees, wrists, and jaws. Please help me.
