My father was taken off his IV stuff a while ago, because it was causing him to have MS symptoms.
Now he has no way to control the pain, which makes life for everyone miserable – especially for dad who use to climb tree’s and steal my nice camera to take pictures of bark…. Now he sleeps on two mats in the dining rooms and I have begged him multiple times to switch rooms with me and he won’t. So I’m going to rebel and use most if not all of my college money to buy him a bed, a real one.
What is a good bed? I’ve heard of tempurpedic, but it seems kind of unrealistic. If someone with arthritis says it’s good maybe I will explore it again.
Thanks!!
My dear Beagle is 16.5 years old and her quality of life is GOOD even though she has a heart murmur, low thyroid function, rotten teeth, arthritis in back legs, curved back, luxating patellas, cloudy eyes, near total deafness and some cognitive issues. She’s still a great companion and pretty girl though.
Does anyone have suggestions or concerns with taking care of such an old dog? I help her outside and have given her soft places to sleep and rimadyl, thorozine and glucosamine daily. Are there any other ways to make her more comfortable?
Our 6 year old pit mix has suddenly started limping. He barely gets up off the couch now, even after getting him his favorite toys, he moved a little bit, but now just a wagging tail and lifting his head. He was shaking pretty badly, so i thought he ate something b/c he has a history. But when I noticed when he stood up he had his leg kind of straight and won’t put a lot of pressure on it, i thought he pulled something since it was so sudden. then i thought maybe arthritis b/c of his age. after doing research, i think it is ACL. I had to hand feed him and water him today, so that ruled out stomach issues. he goes outside but just stands on the porch til i let him back in. he is usually a big fun loving dog that will run to you when you walk in the door, or if he smells food being cooked…he even follows us to the bathroom. but he mainly just lays there. I feel so bad for him. he only whined a couple of times when he was standing.
We plan on taking him to the vet this week, but how much are x-rays/MRIs without insurance? I know that the MRI is what will for sure tell you b/c i have had ACL reconstruction done personally. Pain meds? What kind of pain meds are they? What can we do to help him at home? Heat therapy? Wraps?
Any advice would really be helpful!!!!
Is there any way that it may be bone cancer? I wasn’t sure how immediate effects are.. know they say the symptoms can go from moderate to severe in short time period and then the dog only has a 4-5 month lime frame. Then I think I am over exaggerating. He is also a huge baby who likes attention and laying on the couch..and he would shake in the past to get attention, we would take him to the oh so expensive emergency vet and nothing would be wrong with him. He does have a, what I first called a “sking tag or mole”, but after research maybe it is a fatty tumor? its in the middle of his tailbone and it is about the size of my pinky mail. feels soft and hangs a little over in a upside down heart shape. it is black and pink splotchy. i just noticed it a few weeks ago and thought, maybe the sun from the sun caused a mole. he is whit coated with short hair so the sun can irritate his skin. i dont think it has gorwn any though, so that is something else ot get looked at. suggestions on that?
I have an almost three year old rottwieler. At 12 months he had elbow surgery, which was marginally successful as he now has severe arthritis in both elbows. We recently discovered he has a ‘loose’ knee joint. It is likely that he will injure his ACL. The vet told us to not let him run, play fetch, or exert himself. Ever.
He is a three year old rottwieller! I worry that without sufficient exercise he will become unhappy and aggressive. He is also a challenge to “keep quiet” as he is very energetic.
We got him to be a therapy dog, which of course, he can no longer be.
So, when/how do I decide to put him down? Should I wait until he is clearly unhappy, or put him down sooner?
There is no cure or chance he will get better.
Thanks for the advice. He’s on a lot of pain meds, part of why he’s torn his ACL is that he doesn’t feel injured.
I should have clarified: there are surgeries to try: we have tried several corrective surgeries but he hasn’t got a good leg to stand on. And we can’t afford another five grand to buy him a few months.
My question really wasn’t “do you think I’m a horrible person for wanting to kill my puppy?” it was When do you put a dog down? Is it better to wait until the dog cannot walk or to let him go before he’s miserable?
Again, thanks for the opinions.
My hands have been getting increasingly stiff for the last few months and now they are starting to hurt. I’m listing all the symptoms below. I do have fibromyalgia but this does not seem to be connected. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing these symptoms?
-cold hands and feet
-popping in fingers (happens A LOT)
-stiffness(worse in morning, when cold and with use)
-sharpish pain extends through fingers
-pain is mild(3-5 on a scale with 10 as excruciating)
-does not feel muscular, feels like my bones hurt
-both hands hurt, not 1 joint is worse than any other
-no swelling
-no burning or numbness
-I’m in my early 20’s
Oh and please don’t just me me to see a doctor, I will be doing that as soon as it’s an option (in the fall)
What are the ingredients of Glocosamin? Is it true that it is fattening?
Hi, I am having alot of issues……My lower back hurts really bad and ever since I gave birth to my daughter my tailbone has been hurting. I have been seeing a doctor about this but it is low income insurance since I cant afford good insurance. I only get to see her once a month. She says I have arthritis around my tailbone and I have a bulging disc after xrays and MRI.
I have alot of other things going on too…..I am constantly tired no matter how much sleep I get I am still tired and weak with no energy all day. When I used to be energetic. I also think I have some sort of insomnia. I stay up untill 2 am and I get up with my daughter at 10ish so that is enough sleep. I have headaches all day long. My wrist are terrible they feel like they are grinding. When I waited tables last year my wrist would just give out and I would drop trays. My right shoulder is soo sore and my neck is very stiff. My legs feel like they want to give out from under me sometimes when I am walking around or going up stairs. They also feel tinglly when I lay on my side. I have a very hard time getting asleep at night I can not get comfy at all. It is hard to reach an orgasm. My knees pop and my ankles. My hands are constanly cold. I et a ring in my ear sometimes lately. Sometimes I feel like I am losing my mind. I forget things very easy or what I was saying or forget to grab something important that I need like my purse or my credit card I have left the house with no shoes got in the car and thought dang it I am an idiot I need shoes. I dont feel depressed I love my husband and my daughter with all of my heart. I feel like if this issue goes unresolved that I will get depressed about it. I want to enjoy my life. This has all flared up since my baby was born but I have had minor issues in the past couple of years like my wrist my legs getting tired and weak and now they feel like they are going to give out on me. I get plenty of exersice, I was upto 198 pounds when I went in to delievery and am now down to 136 so that is great. I eat good and healthy and always have. The worst thing I do is smoke and drink diet coke and I am trying to stop drinking so much diet and more water. I am on chantix to quit smoking.
The meds that the doc gave me are not working for me they are motron 800s and ultram. She also gave me predizon for a 5 day treatment and I dont feel any differant. The motrons are starting to give me an upset stomache so I stopped taking them as prescribe which was 1 pill 3 x a day. I have ended up in ER 3 times now in the past 7 months for my back giving out. They give me vicodins and they seem to work wonders for me. My doctor told me that “they work to good and I cant get them here” then the last time I was in ER she prescribed me vicodin 750s so I don’t know what to do about her. I am continueing to see her because I want her to take me seriously about this because I have been suffering for a very long time and I am getting upset that she isnt trying to help me. I think that she is judging me on my appearance. I have many tattoos and I am only 24 years old. But I have never been a druggie I feel that she looks at me that way and don’t know how to get her to listen to me. Also I was wondering if anyone can tell me more about lymes disease? I was bitten by a tick about 9 years ago and had a ring where the bite was and didn’t do anything about it. My mom never took me to the doctors for anything always said I would be fine. So, could this be lyme that just flared up after I gave birth. I also had a spinal block/ epidural during birth and gave birth natrually.
I have a whole bunch of unexplained symptoms that I have experienced off and on for 8 years, but mostly in the past year.
- Chronic Headaches (Migraines)
- Joint Pain and Chest pain due to inflammation
- VERY painful muscle spasms
- Deteriorating eye sight
- Forgetfulness
- Numbness in hands and feet
- Burning Sensations in hands and feet
- Sudden dizziness and vertigo
- Extreme fatigue
I’ve had a CT scan, and numerous blood tests to look for thyroid problems, vitamin deficiencies, and possible arthritis. Everything has turned up normal. The only thing that hasn’t turned up normal is my urine which has sometimes has protein and sometimes doesn’t. Basically I’m in almost constant pain, with only a few hours of relief. The last doctor I talked too only treated the headaches I was having and basically shrugged off all the other symptoms (thats military doctors for ya!)
Age: Early 20s
Please don’t tell me to “go see a doctor” I’m already in the process of doing this.
I would just like to know possibly what could this be?
my afghan hound is 10 years old and starting to be troubled with arthritis. i’m a nurse and so i know that arthritis is effective in relieving human arthritis pain… but i don’t want to poison or overdose my dog. i’m thinking a children’s aspirin might be ok. but not sure. don’t tell me to see a vet … that is NOT an option. i want to hear the experiences of others. and if there are any vets out there who care to share, please do! =D
